Dexter dreams up killer ideas

Dexter is about to bring back Julie Benz as Rita.
Yup.
At least for the first episode.
Exactly how it plans to do this isn’t crystal clear yet.
EW reckons she is not coming back from the dead: “New showrunner/executive producer Chip Johannessen also rules out a spectral visit a la Dexter’s late pa, Harry. ‘We’re not going to do some ghostly thing with her,’ he says. Adds fellow exec producer Sara Colleton: ‘We reserve those for Harry. If you have too many things like that it becomes gimmicky.'”
A Showtime representative would only add that the presence of Rita will “help Dexter deal with his newfound feelings of loss and grief — emotions he has never really felt before.”
That would therefore mean a flashback or a dream sequence wouldn’t it? Both of which are still kinda ‘gimmicky.’
Benz left the show after her now-famous finale to guest in Desperate Housewives and will appear in the new series No Ordinary Family. So it doesn’t sound permanent, that’s for sure.
The new season premieres in the US in September.

I say dream sequence, but not like the ones with Harry.
I agree with Rutzie. I think they should bring back John Lithgow for the first ep too and show us how it went down between Trinity and Rita. Did he tell her who Dexter really is and did he do his usual thing of getting naked and getting in the bath too when he kills her? I’m still confused as to how he found out Dexter’s real address. Remember, he went to Dexter’s apartment first.
Totally love this show and can’t wait to see more.

It would be good to see what actually happened between Trinity and Rita e.g. whether he told her about Dexter before he killed her.
The whole season had been hinting at Rita going the way of Trinity’s other victims…cept I was expecting her to fall from a great height…was certainly shocked by the way he got her in the end! 🙁

The ending was the most suprsing and unexpected of any major TV series I have ever seen ..I had no idea Rita was going to die.The ending left me speechless and I couldn’t stop thinkng about it for days..Brilliant, brilliant writing

The last series of Dexter was fantastic!! I can’t wait to see the changes to Dexter’s character in the next series. Amazing show, great writing, fabulous cast. One of the best shows ever on television!
