  1. i also think that judging by the first semi-final acts that Greece, Russia, Serbia, Latvia and Estonia have all decided that one win in Eurovision is enough there is no need to host it again 🙂

  2. the voting the whole way through is happening in the final as well, the logic being that historically, songs toward the end of the running order always win, so they are hoping this will even things up a bit and give songs that were earlier a fighting chance…it doesnt do any harm for the revenue of cash strapped european broadcasters either though…as for Malta, they send the same kind of song every year…it had to get old eventually…and it has..the only song I thought shouldnt have made the final that did, was Russia, but they have all their old satelite states voting for them, so their qualificaiton is no huge shock..

  3. Yes, I thought it seems a bit lame, compared to previous years. I noticed the bland postcards too. The hosts aren’t dynamic. The stage isn’t as spectacular. Haven’t heard any power ballads yet. Why can people vote before seeing all the songs ?

    1. Moscow is a very hard act to follow but I like that the staging is using dynamic lighting as a backdrop instead of LED screens. Wait for the Final before dismissing Postcards. The voting before the acts start in the Semis is an interesting move, if it happens at the Final and an early act wins, expect fallout. Malta was a loss I agree. Will it be the only one? Seems to be a late surge for Iceland, great song, and would be a first time win.

  4. Iceland gives good Eurovision! Their’s was the best song of the night but then again it was a fairly average night in Eurovision terms – very light on for Eurovision staples like reveals (although wings are popular this year??), wind machines and key changes!

And do you get the feeling that ESC this year has either been affected by the GFC or the Icelandic volcano? Staging-wise it is very understated compared to previous years and the cheap postcards seem to indicate that too.

And poor Malta misses out again?? Always the bridesmaid! And FYROM all I could think of were the Underbelly Dancers!

  5. Russia seriously. Come on. Substitute Malta for Russia and they might have gotten it right.
I know at the Eurovision Party I attended everyone had Russia and Latvia in last or equal last position.
And what was with that guy from Serbia’s hair. He reminded me of a Japanese Manga character.

  6. Ahh, David….Malta and Slovakia were robbed! 🙁
Latvia wins the ultimate worst last night. Overly dramatic and horrible vocals.
    Well, onto tonight I guess

  7. I found it comical that the most Idol-like song (Malta’s ‘My Dream’ and sung mostly in tune) was beaten out by so many weird and unintentionally awful acts!

  8. How good was the Icelandic song? Europop at its best!
Thrilled to see the Belgian guy go through, really good song and simple performance. And Portugal, what a surprise, they were rank outsiders, like 400/1 to win the thing, nobody expected them to qualify!
