GO! has today launched “newsbursts” -short news bulletins to be fronted by some of its younger Nine News journos.

The first went to air today at 3:30pm, hosted by Devina Smith.

Nine is claiming it as the first locally produced content for the channel.

The newsbursts will air weekdays at 3.30pm, 5.00pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm and will rotate other Nine journos on a weekly basis.

Mark Calvert, Nine’s Director of News and Current Affairs, said: “We’re excited to be bringing GO! viewers regular bursts of news. And it’s great to be giving on-air opportunities to some of the talented young journalists we have in our newsroom.”

Les Sampson, Nine’s Director of Acquisitions, said: “News has always been an important part of the Nine Network’s strategy so it’s only natural that we would introduce regular newsbursts for the younger demographic watching GO!”

  1. If this will fix their main problem of starting shows 5-10 minutes earlier than they should be – then I am all for it,. Just stick to a schedule !!!

  2. @mikeys – Well said!

So far the commercial channels have shown they are good at making viewers think “fluff” = news. Educated “younger” viewers will get their news from better sources. Bring on the ABC news channel.

  3. We dont want news updates on GO! Its one of the reasons i watch because i dont have to get bulletins all the time. Infomercials i can understand because its “revenue” but News? give me a break. It also looks like there will be even more delays in schedules on GO!

7TWO has news updates where we are, but i am in Primeland and we get Prime ads and they are pretty much identical to those on Prime itself.

  4. Their mail channel ‘updates’ are shallow enough – how much more fluff can you handle in a news update?! Seriously.

Looking forward to Jules Lund telling me “the weather’s gonna be sweet dudes”.
Or the [redacted] blond Melbourne weather-girl reporting on something other than those big, silly double-digit numbers (I dunno, like a real news bulletin)…

If it doesn’t happen, I’ll eat my hat.

  5. @Benjamin – totally agree

While they’re at it why don’t they put TMZ and ET on at a better time for us who like a bit of celebrity gossip!! Not the bloody Flinstones or the Jetsons.

Remember when GO had variety…those were the days…

  6. Whoever thought she was a good choice needs their head read. There is enough news on other channels, they don’t need to bring it to GO!.

  7. Not a bad idea at all! I think once 7TWO showed a 7 News bulletin.. i think it was on a monday night… but having these newsbursts will be handy so that you don’t have to switch to another channel to see the news updates, which can be very handy.
