Jimmy Fallon to host Emmys 2010

Late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon has been named host of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, due in August.

Late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon has been named host of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

His hosting will follow the 2009 awards fronted by Neil Patrick Harris.

NBC’s Paul Telegdy said, “Jimmy was the natural choice as one of the most promising and likable young entertainers who will now have the chance to display his many talents on television’s biggest night.

“His proven skills as a comedian and host — as well as his openness to new ideas — will fully engage audiences and ultimately deliver a lively Emmy telecast.”

Executive producer Don Mischer added, “I think he’ll make a terrific host and we are really looking forward to working with him.”

“Hosting the Emmys has been a dream of mine ever since they told me I was doing it,” said Fallon.

Without Conan O’Brien at the network, Fallon would have been one of the strongest candidates for the role. He is a two-time host of the MTV Movie Awards and also hosted the MTV Video Music Awards. There is speculation that Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake were also under consideration.

Last week the Golden Globes announced Ricky Gervais would return as its 2011 host.

The 62nd Emmys will be held on August 29 with nominations for the awards will be announced Thursday, July 8th.

  1. I was hoping NPH would be back, but I don’t think this is a bad choice by any means.

Would have been great to have had Conan, but it’s NBC. I guarantee if it was on another network they would have tried to get him.

I hope fallon can do some of the sketch, tv parody stuff that’s done brilliantly on his show into the awards.

  2. I think Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert should co-host together. They just bounce off one another and it’s always hilarious.

That being said, if they can’t do it, Jimmy Fallon’s a good choice – he’s adorably charming, and can be damn funny too. Too bad Neil Patrick Harris can’t do it again though! He rocked the last one.

  3. Awful news..I was so hoping Neil Patrick Harris would do it again..Fallon is wet and lame and not at all edgy.Timerlake ande Samberg would be so much better than Fallon

  4. i finally watched my first full episode of Fallon last night since the so-so premier (not that i was avoiding it just hard to fit in with Letterman, Chelsea, Ferguson and Conan) and i was pleasantly surprised how good it was (in no small part thanks to his guest-Sarah Silverman and Joan Rivers and the hilarious game ‘wheel of carpet samples’) but i still think he is a bit stiff and you need to be quite flexible to host these things MTV awards are a bit different more of a party atmosphere…but more power to him i say!

i was thinking Alec Baldwin and Neil Patrick Harris would have great together-but i guess its risking overexposure!
