Just desserts as Matt Preston pitches formats

Matt Preston and Claudia Karvan together in a travel / foodie show?

The theatrical MasterChef star has been busy pitching new ideas to TEN, presumably to capitalise on his small screen success. Who knows if he was being serious with this one…

The journo in Preston, who has a long history as a food critic for The Age (amongst others), is still coming to terms with his celebrity status. Last week when he won a Logie Award as Most Outstanding New Talent he told TV Tonight he felt a bit like a gate-crasher at television’s party. Nobody else questioned the win after his impressive debut on TEN’s cook-off.

But the real money to be made for Preston would come in the form of an original format, as opposed to being hired talent.

“Nothing’s been decided yet but first priority is of course MasterChef and Junior MasterChef,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

“It is just a matter of time. It’s a matter of finding time to do stuff but we do have a few things bubbling away.

“There are some things which we are trying to find time for.”

TEN confirmed it had held discussions with Preston. They would be mad not to. But over-exposure will be a delicate juggling act for everybody.

  1. Overall the Logies went out to people that deserved the award. But for this Matt to win a personal award was not one of them.He can’t host. The show got a overall award and fair enough, but he personally didn’t deserve one. There are alot better people out there

  2. Excuse my pedantry David, but Matt won the Logie for Outstanding New Talent – a peer voted prize. I was suprised to see him triumphant over 4 young thesps but there it was! He evidently has a respect and standing in the industry beyond just being on screen ‘talent’.
