NBC picks up Undercovers

Undercovers, J.J. Abrams' series about a married couple who are re-activated as CIA agents after years of retirement, has been approved by NBC.

Undercovers, J.J. Abrams’ series about a married couple who are re-activated as CIA agents after years of retirement, has been picked as NBC’s first new drama for the 2010-11 US season.

Abrams (Lost, Alias, Fringe, Felicity) co-wrote, produced and directed the pilot, which stars British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Boris Kodjoe (pictured). Abrams’ deal called for the network to decide on the pickup by Monday, so an early announcement was also expected on the series.

“We have tremendous confidence in this promising series and feel this is a great way to kick off our upcoming Upfront development announcements,” said NBC chairman Jeff Gaspin. “J.J. has delivered another signature series along with our partners at Warner Bros and we couldn’t be happier.”

Josh Reims (Brothers and Sisters) also serves as a co-writer, having worked with Abrams on Felicity.

  1. Congrats to Gugu Mbatha-Raw, another former Doctor Who actor tries to make it in the USA, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and now Gugu Mbatha-Raw

  2. sounds great, the only pilot i would write hit over, it’s gathered a lot of interest in the US apparantly it was one of the most expensive pilots ever made. i just hope the fact that it is on NBC doesn’t jade ch9’s decision to show it in primetime or not.

  3. Being a big fan of Alias, Lost and Fringe (never saw Felicity), i’m looking forward to this, hopefully it’ll make up for no more lost.
