Talking Heads: Glenn Shorrock

Next week on Talking Heads the guest is singer, Glenn Shorrock.

Shorrock has a long history as a performer in Australia as both solo singer and frontman to The Twilights and the Little River Band.

Born in England in 1944, Shorrock arrived in Australia with his family a decade later, as an assisted-passage immigrant.

Obsessed with rock ‘n’ roll from a young age, Shorrock and his band, The Twilights emerged from the migrant town of Elizabeth near Adelaide in the early sixties.

The Twilights shot to national fame with hits like Needle in a Haystack, What’s Wrong with the Way I Live and Cathy Come Home. In 1966, as winners of the first Hoadley’s Battle of the Sounds the group was sent to London to the Abbey Road Studios where, next door, The Beatles were recording Strawberry Fields.

But it was a decade later, as lead singer of Little River Band, that Shorrock really hit the big time. The group cracked the lucrative US market with a string of eight Top Ten hits in America and around the world. Its success was credited with opening the door for other Australian acts on the international circuit.

Since his sudden and dramatic exit from Little River Band in 1982, Shorrock has continued to enjoy enormous success as a songwriter and performer.

He’s starred in Evita, Rocky Horror Show, Grease and Shout, also alongside George Martin in All You Need is Beatles. Plus he’s performed in his own stage productions and linked up again with the original members of the Little River Band.
