Where to for Project Runway Australia?

In or out? There could be big changes to a 2010 season of Arena's Project Runway Australia -if it goes ahead at all.

As host Kristy Hinze told contestants, “One day you’re in, next day you’re out….”

TV Tonight understands there could be big changes to a 2010 season of Arena’s Project Runway Australia -if it goes ahead at all.

The reality show’s future may hinge on the ability of producers to secure a new host.

Rumours are speculating that supermodel Kristy Hinze may not return for a third season and producers are scouting for a replacement. Hinze, who spends much of the year living overseas with husband James H. Clark founder of Silicon Graphics and Netscape, has hosted the first two seasons to considerable success.

Top of a wish list for a new season is said to be Megan Gale, partner of Andy Lee.

Foxtel sources yesterday would not be drawn on the show’s future, despite the show being announced as part of the Pay TV giant’s 2010 productions earlier this year.

A spokesperson told TV Tonight, “We are in the process of determining our production slate for the second half of 2010 and will make a further announcement shortly.”

Last year the show, which also features fashion mentor Henry Roth, auditioned in January, aired in July and saw its September finale won by Anthony Capon. But while well-respected in the Australian fashion industry, the second season didn’t attract quite as much viewer buzz as the debut 2008 season.

A major style makeover is not out of the question. FOX8 previously replaced its Australia’s Next Top Model host twice and wound up with it most acclaimed host of all, Sarah Murdoch. This year the series is airing later due to Murdoch becoming a new mum. Auditions were completed in January.

FOX8 has also announced its new co-host for Football Superstar in Kris Smith.

New W channel drama Spirited is also delayed from its promised March premiere.

PRA Producers FremantleMedia Australia did not respond to enquiries.

Corrected.

  1. I hope they don’t let her unavailability prevent the show from going ahead. I always found her a bit stiff, but that’s just me. The show, however, was a must watch. Just grab any old supermodel to host, it’s the contestants that make or break the show for me (and last season they were pretty average)

  2. I was only wondering today when Project Runway would be on – I hope they can get the show together – I am a huge fan – I imagine they will, it was a great ratings success for Arena

  3. thinking of other Aussie models who could host it? Tara Moss, Nikki Taylor, Megan Gale, Jen Hawkins, Lara Bingle.. theres also plenty of out of work TV presenters who could do it.

  4. I tried to watch this once last year and I struggled to make it past 20 mins. Henry Roth came across as the most absurd caricature, Hinze was vanilla, and the designers came off looking like the biggest posers it was simply cringe worthy.

  5. This program is a rare example of the Aussie version being better than the original American product. Both series so far have been great, I hope they can get another series on air soon!

  6. i do hope they bring back project runway…it’s such a good show and i love all the drama

i like shows that show people for who they really are instead of insecure people trying to loose weight and cry cry cry

  7. No great loss if Hinze goes. Just get Henry to do it all. He’d love it. Alternatively, why not get a rugby league player to host – it makes as much sense as having one host Football Superstar.
