2.15m as Maroons thrash Blues

After a big win on Tuesday, Seven was hit hardest on Wednesday as 2.15m viewers watched the State of Origin II.

Last night’s State of Origin clash soared to an average audience of 2.15m viewers as Queensland’s Maroons thrashed the NSW Blues 34-6.

It peaked at 2.46m with a staggering 946,000 watching in Sydney and 849,000 in Brisbane.

But the big audience was down on the 2.45m average who watched last month’s game.

MasterChef Australia still ranked an impressive 1.78m viewers and The Gruen Transfer‘s season debut was still a solid 1.17m for the ABC – higher than Spicks and Speck‘s 1.16m.

Today Tonight was strongest for Seven on 1.59m but its Medical Emergency hour at 7:30pm dropped to 787,000. Seven’s Schindler’s List movie averaged a dismal 421,000 -well down on the 615,000 who watched the 2.5hr Lost finale against the State of Origin I last month.

Nine won Wednesday with a 34.5% network share over TEN’s 21.6% and Seven’s 20.5%.

Nine is now in front for the week thus far by 1.5%.

Today’s ratings were delayed by OzTAM due to a technical problems.

  1. I think Schindler’s List will be the most popular older DVD rental this week.
Watching a movie on TV that lasts for four hours is a stretch.

  2. @aznfratboy: Schindler’s List is very much an Australian Story: 1. Australian author Thomas Keneally wrote the original book which inspired Steven Spielberg to make the movie. 2. Caroline Goodall is an Australian actress who portrayed the character of Schindler’s wife in the film.

  3. It seems like NSW is just hopeless at football, 5 years without an origin win, ridiculous!

The Blues obviously need a better football coach and some more talented footballers to join the team.

  4. Great ratings once again for State Of Origin. If only the massive interest in NSW was matched by the teams performance. It was a truely great performance for Queensland and the football on show was so far ahead of anything else you will see in any other sport this year! Now, if only NSW wasn’t such a mess and we could make more of a contest of it!

  5. Schindler’s List is hard to understand, it take a certain sophisticated level of thinking to be able to delve into the movie, Australia is a country which prides itself on its inability to survive a short 36 hour work week, doesn’t take a genius to understand why we can’t understand Schindler’s List, let alone spell the title.

  6. The worse part about the Origin game last night was hearing ace commentator Ray (Rabbit) Warren advertising Nine’s hopeless Underbelly. Poor form Rabbits. The best part was the better team won and of course the wag who yelled “Queenslander” with almost all of the 52,000+ following just before the national song finished. What would the Queen think? ummm naughty Aussies!

  7. Knew Nine would win but didn’t think Seven would be down so much, that said Nine only has a small lead, maybe dropping new shows Monday night will cost them the win for the week?

David do they have any numbers on people watching in 3D?

  8. Not taking anything away from Qld but I think NSW are disinterested in the State of Origin concept. It was new and exciting 15 years ago with Elias, Roach and Mortimer but I don’t think the NSW players really care for it much these days – how else do you explain 5 straight lost series. It won’t be long until the fans follow suit similar to the AFL state clashes.

  9. i bet the sydney ratings for game 3 will take a massive dive due to how hopless the blues really are 5 series in a row is pathetic i sure as hell wont be watching game 3 there is no point it will be MC for me

  10. Ratings were possibly down because it was pretty much a given the mighty QLDers would thrash the hapless blues.

Great to see S&S hold up well.

  11. As a NSW fan That was just embarrassing ugly what ever you wanna call it.
It’s time NSW picked players who wanna play footy & attack Queensland rather then sit back & hope to win.
