Airdate: E.J. Whitten Legends Game

Sam Newman will come out of retirement and pull on his boots for the E.J. Whitten Legends fundraiser.

This year the charity event E.J. Whitten Legends Game will be seen on Tuesday, July 6th on Channel Nine.

With a mix of former sports stars and celebrities, the line-up will see Sam Newman coming out of retirement when he pulls on his boots.

The Footy Show star is a 300-gamer and eight-time State representative. But even at 64, Newman won’t be the oldest player on the field. That honour goes to 74-year-old Cobber Rogers from Kalgoorlie, who holds the title as the oldest registered AFL player.

James Brayshaw and Brian Taylor will call the action for Nine, with special comments from Billy Brownless. On the ground, Shane Crawford and Nathan Brown will be team runners, while Tony Jones will ride the boundary.

The game is a major fundraiser for the E.J. Whitten Foundation, with proceeds going to prostate cancer research, a disease which Newman has been more than familiar with.

The game will air at 7:30pm in Melbourne and delayed at 9:00pm in Perth and Adelaide.

  2. @Steve it’s not State of Origin. It’s Victoria proving it thinks it’s the only state that plays footy and the only state that matters. I have no interest in these matches nor the Victoria vs the rest matche the AFL had a few years ago. Victoria has a team to support, i support SA, thats my state of origin.

The fact its live in Melbourne but delayed until 9 in Adelaide & Perth only proves this.
