And who says she isn’t running for the top job?
Monday night’s episode of Australian Story is a profile of Deputy PM Julia Gillard (for the second time) with the provocative episode title “She Who Waits.”
Four years ago Australian Story’s profile of Julia Gillard produced some unique and candid insights from those closest to her. Those insights are even more relevant today.
This edition recounts her journey, from a modest childhood in Wales to the front bench of Federal Parliament as Deputy Prime Minister. It draws on fresh material, not previously broadcast in the 2006 Gillard Diaries profile.
Featuring a roll call of political powerbrokers – both supporters and opponents of Gillard – this edition examines
the human side of the woman pundits suggest will be the first female Prime Minister of Australia.
With the sudden and dramatic decline in Kevin Rudd’s fortunes, there’s much speculation on when, not if, Julia
Gillard will succeed him.
“Certainly she’s not afraid of dropping a principle to get to where she wants to get to. If Julia Gillard came to the view that Kevin Rudd’s leadership was untenable, loyalty would not bog her down at all … I think she’d take it in a heartbeat. If she appears too loyal at the moment it’s because she doesn’t think the leadership is tenable for her at the moment or she doesn’t think that Kevin Rudd’s leadership has disintegrated.”- Patricia Karvelas, political commentator.
This edition delivers insightful commentary on factional alliances and the complex machinations of the parliamentary party room.
While those inside Gillard’s inner circle are now maintaining a discreet silence, others are all too happy to talk
about a woman well poised to make Australian history.
It airs 8pm Monday on ABC1.

Why in the hell have you got Beattie on your program. He stuffed up QLD and then handed it over to Bligh. It was only 1 day ago and Gillard said no way and she was 100% behind Rudd. This whole story was a joke.
Thanks for the tip on RSS. The site actually crashed last week, killing the RSS function and other things. As a result, I am doing a rework of the site. Please come back again soon so you can see the changes
Test pattern would be better to watch.
@newtase: Julia? yes. Julie? no.
Yummy. Opposite Julie Bishop in Question Time yesterday was magic. Can see both of them taking over as leaders.
