David Campbell to host Helpmann Awards

Cabaret star David Campbell will host the 2010 Helpmann Awards at Sydney Opera House to air on STVDIO.

Cabaret star David Campbell (and not the politician) will host the 2010 Helpmann Awards at Sydney Opera House.

It will be broadcast delayed on STVDIO at 8.30pm AEST on Monday 6 September as the first live broadcast on for the channel. The 10th awards ceremony will be Campbell’s first time as host.

David Campbell said, “I am thrilled to be hosting the Helpmann Awards which are hugely important within the performing arts industry. It is also exciting that Foxtel, long time supporter of the Awards, will broadcast the Awards on STVDIO.”

Nominees for the 2010 Awards will be announced at a media launch to be held simultaneously in Melbourne and Sydney on Monday, 2 August.

This year’s ceremony is considerably later that the 2009 awards, which were held in July and broadcast on Bio.

  1. i guess he is our song and dance man de jour! He has more personable charisma than Simon Burke who hosted a few times, but not as funny as Jonathan Biggins who i recall also hosted. For award junkies like myself it is watchable, but with theatre and musicals so exorbitantly expensive – it has about as much resonance as the Tony’s – perhaps less – for my liking. Good for David Campbell – great success story of reinvention.
