Finalist told: Choose the church or Australia’s Got Talent

Australia's Got Talent finalist Taylor Henderson was given an ultimatum by his local Pastor to choose his church or the Seven series.

Australia’s Got Talent finalist Taylor Henderson was given an ultimatum by his local Pastor to choose his church or his continuation in Seven’s series.

The Geelong Advertiser reports Henderson, 17, was told to quit the show or be banished from the Geelong Revival Centre.

Henderson made it all the way to the final three in the show which concluded on Tuesday. His father, Cameron Henderson, was runner-up.

“He was given some options and made decisions and he’s a free person,” Pastor Hollins said yesterday.

“He had the opportunity to make his own decision and that’s all there is to it.”

Another source told the newspaper, “Three weeks ago, he was marched to the pastor’s office and given an ultimatum: give up the competition or don’t attend the church and he chose the competition.

Australia’s Got Talent is considered worldly, a way of making a living. Certain careers in Geelong Revival Centre are not considered ethical or spiritual.”

Since appearing on the show, both father and son performers have been receiving music industry offers.

The Hendersons declined to comment on the controversy.

  1. To Taylor and Cameron, Its sad to hear that your Church has treated you this way, I am a Christian, and this is not the Christian way. Cameron, you have done a wonderful job in the raising of your children, that was obvious from your first appearance together. Keep up the good work, find another Church, a good Bible based Church, and it will b e enriched b y your membership. Best of luck in your futures, keep the Lord at the helm and you will walk in the Lord. God Bless X

  2. I was a Mormon for over 45 years and in the late 90’s and the release of the genome report, I came to my senses; and resigned my membership.
The church had been lying to its member re its origin (the only true church).
To think of all the money I had paid in tithing to that American $$$$ BS Church.
Now my church is my home. Matthew chapter 7.

  3. As a Chrisitan, I am shocked, and sadened that a church pastor thinks he has the right to make those types of statements and give those types of ultimatems! I hope he’s found a better, more caring and loving church.

  4. This sort of behaviour is always about some group trying to maintain a level of control over their members. These so-called Christian’s are as bad as the Taliban when it comes to trying to exert their influence over the private lives of others.

If a leader of your group tells you that you can’t listen to a particular song, or read a particular book, or speak to a particular person, then your group is a cult and it’s probably time to leave.

  5. Acts like this contribute to the ever diminishing numbers of people committing to the church which is always good news.

Good luck, Taylor – you don’t need some bunch of mumbo-jumbo-ists behind you!

  6. Ah “Pastor” Hollins. Big mistake. They’ll probably go on to make millions and would probably donates a slice to your “church”.
“Certain careers in Geelong Revival Centre are not considered ethical or spiritual”- Could we have a list of these “certain careers” please? I just want to be sure so when I meet St.Peter at the pearly gates he won’t tell me “lawyers and bank managers are too unethical to contaminate heaven”. OMG my daughter’s a TV station executive. Now she will have a problem too. LOL

  7. Hmmm, sounds suspiciously like a cult to me. These so-called revivalist, evangelical Christian churches can have very weird rules. At least the mainstream Christian denominations (ie Catholic, Anglican, Uniting, etc) do not have such stupid rules on how members of their flock make a living.

  8. This is so typical of yet another group calling themselfs “Christians” and then treating one of their followers like that. All that I can say is one day all these so called, judgemental people claiming to be Christians will one day like the rest of us have to face our maker where they will be in for a rude shock to find out how far away they are from God and what he really believes and acts.

  9. Amiee Elizabeth is from Hillsong, and she had Bobbie Houston and the Hillsong Sisterhood behind her all the way. Not all Christians on AGT were disowned by their church.

  10. I don’t see any problem with a Christian appearing on Australia’s Got Talent…why on earth would a church group have a problem with this? It’s not like he’s on Big Brother masturbating over a midget.

  11. This Geelong Revival Centre are not a true group of Christians. They’re a batch of pretentious hypocrites, Pharisees the likes of which annoyed Jesus to no end.

Congratulations on smearing your church’s name irreversibly, you silly, narrow-minded people. Seriously, these people are a joke.

  12. Please note that this is not the standard Christian view, but just the very narrow view of one pastor and perhaps a few members of that church.

Guy Sebastian, Dean Geyer & Stan Walker all seem to be doing well as Christians going through TV competitions.

  13. Charming – I thought a church was meant for All and not for the few.

Never mind, both father and son can get on with their lives and make a good living from what they enjoy doing – after all the bible does say we are all free spirits…….
