Foxtel to air Youth Olympic Games

Matt Shirvington will lead Foxtel's coverage of the very first Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore in August.

Foxtel personalities Matt Shirvington, Leisel Jones and Matthew Mitcham yesterday joined young athletes who will soon head to Singapore to represent Australia at the first ever Youth Olympic Games.

The Games will be broadcast on Channel 517 (Singapore Youth Olympic Games Channel) with 26 sports across 201 events at 12 venues over 13 days.

Australia will send a team of 100 athletes, all aged between 14 and 18.

Shirvington, who will report for Foxtel from Singapore during the Games, said: “It is fantastic to have such an impressive line-up of young athletes represent Australia at the first ever Youth Olympic Games. These kids are our sporting future and it is amazing for them to have this opportunity on their way to London and beyond.”

15 year old swimmer, Emma McKeon said: “Attending the first ever Youth Olympic Games is such an honour. My parents both have such fond memories of representing their country so I can’t believe I’ll be representing Australia at this history-making event, and I am so excited that thanks to Foxtel, my friends at home will be able to watch our team compete.”

Shirvington will provide daily updates throughout the Games, covering special Olympic moments achieved by the young squad.

Events will also be seen on GO!

  1. @Ararat
They’re not just random kids playing cricket in their backyard, these athletes are the best teenagers in the world. I think many people who have an appreciation of sport would pay to watch it, many more than u would think.

  2. I doubt it will cost extra. Who on earth is going to pay money to see a bunch of kids play games? (I guess apart from their parents).

I imagine it’s more likely that the IOC is paying Them to broadcast it in order to generate publicity for the ’cause’.
