The ABC has appointed Stuart Menzies, currently the Head of ABC TV Documentaries, as the new Controller of ABC2.

As the ABC adpots a BBC-style channel structure, he will have responsibility for the ABC2’s strategic vision, commissioning,  programming, and branding.

His appointment follows Brendan Dahill, Director of Television for BBC Worldwide Channels, Australasia, as Controller for ABC1.

Kim Dalton, Director of ABC TV said, “Stuart will bring to this new role a long and diverse background in film and television along with a strong commitment to public broadcasting and Australian content.

“His overriding achievement at the ABC has been to put Australian independently produced documentaries back at the centre of our prime-time schedule and to develop consistent, at times very large and always appreciative audiences for them.”

Menzies added, “ABC2 has enormous potential to grow and mature as a distinctive and unique channel as part of the suite of channels ABCTV now offers the Australian audience. I am thrilled to be part of the team that will lead it forward.”

Since joining ABC in 2004 Menzies achievements have included commissioning Who Killed Dr Bogle and Mrs Chandler, The Bridge, Hunt Angels (2006), Oasis (2008) and Solo (2009). He was also a partner and producer with Melbourne-based production house December Films.
