TEN wins Wednesday

TEN wins Wednesday as MasterChef pushes Hey Hey under the 1m mark -and The Circle trumps Kerri-Anne.

Wednesday put a smile on the faces of the folk at TEN.

It won the night with a 27.0% share to Nine’s 26.8% and Seven’s 25.0%.

Without much leg up from ONE to compete with GO! and 7TWO that’s a very good result (Primary channels: TEN: 26.2, Nine: 24.8, Seven: 23.0).

MasterChef Australia pulled out another 1.8m (or 1.799 to be precise) beating Border Security / Surf Patrol (1.2m / 966,000).

Hey Hey it’s Saturday finally slipped under the dreaded 1m mark at 995,000. That preliminary figure will move after adjusting for overruns (it finished at 9:47pm) and Timeshifting but daily ratings reports historically log overnight figures.

Back to form was Spicks and Specks on 1.24m which won its slot. Lie to Me was close behind on 1.21m. Yet another crime factual Police Under Fire: Mad Max came under fire at 817,000 -fourth in its slot for Seven.

But the best news for TEN yesterday was not in primetime, but morning television.

The Circle pulled out a morale-boosting 100,000, beating Kerri-Anne on 97,000. Aside from the Anzac Day public holiday it was a season high for the morning show. If The 7PM Project had topped the 1m mark (it was 943,000) it would be just about enough reason to give everyone at TEN the day off.

  1. I enjoy the Circle if I am home to watch it – but can anyone explain why they have the shopping crud in there?

I would love to just be able to sit and watch the girls w/out a stupid steam mop commercial wrecking the flow of the show all the time!!

  2. I totally enjoyed David and Kim….and was sad to see them go…..
I was not sure about The Circle…..was thinking The View…..but it is nothing like that….it is sooooooooo much more…..
I had an appointment this morning and had to miss The Circle….not happy!

  3. Good news for The Circle. I watched it a couple of times when i was off work sick and it’s quite good. Glad to see it’s numbers are up! Well done 10!

  4. Go The Circle! I’m seldom home to watch it live but from the clips on their website it’s easy to see why it’s such a great show – so great that I’m going to book tickets for me and a friend to go see it. The ladies are so comfortable with each other and it’s such a joy to watch them joke and laugh.

  5. The times I have been able check out The Circle I think it has been quite good. I enjoyed seeing Tom Green be a co-host and it has been good to see John Edward appear there several times this week, and interact with the audience they have. Denise and the other girls have been quite funny at times as well.

Love Hey Hey too, but it would be good to see how well it really can do on a Saturday again. I know there have been comments about them thinking too many people are not around to watch TV on Saturday nights, but if such a lowly clip show like Funniest Home Videos can get a million at times, surely Hey Hey can do better? That and it would be oh so good, to have a big show back on Saturdays again, if not though oh well.. I’ll watch Hey Hey where-ever it may be.

  6. The Circle is a great show that has exceeded all my expectations. I used to be a fan of 9AM cos they were smarter and slightly funny sometimes and when I heard it was being replaced by an all-female show, I had my doubts. Suprisingly, it’s nothing like the View where all the women are on their high horses, yelling over each other and constantly waving their self-righteous opinions in your face.

The Circle is the first time I have ever actually be *entertained* by a morning show. It’s hilarious, the girls have such great personalities (especially Yumi Stynes) and they have excellent chemistry. It’s nowhere near as vacuous as The Morning Show or as dull as Kerri-Anne and best of all, it does not alienate the male viewers.

  7. My mum has been saying how she is enjoying the circle also for the reason’s mentioned it is funny moves along at a good pace and does not have to many of those infomercials ( fingers crossed it stays that way) . As with Hey Hey yes move it to Saturday nights and start testing out new segments, keep a few of the old ones but some fresh ones are needed.

  8. Good and well deserved news for The Circle despite no thanks to Sydney. Reckon they should can the news at 9am and find something a bit more lively as its intro. Maybe importing Regis and Kelly might be a better fit?

  9. So happy TEN won the night, I hope there are many more as MC goes towards it’s final weeks, how much longer is it on?

Hey Hey is getting tired, maybe the need to show it again on Saturday nights on GO!?

I didn’t watch any FTA last night, after the news and 7PM.

  10. the circle is great, so nice to hear different, fresh opinions from these bubbly ladies, than to suffer through anything kerrianne has to say.

  11. I have only been able to watch the Circle a few times it is quite entertaining compared to the others. I agree Brett – Chrissie is fabulous and would be a great regular on 7pm. I saw her and Dicko last week and they were great together.

  12. What is going on at Seven? How can programming be allowed to do nothing for the whole first half of the year? What are they actually doing? If I was an advertised I’d be asking for my money back. And why let PTTR and CH sit on the shelf – they just lose currency and freshness. How can John Holmes tolerate only having H&A on the sked when there are so many holes to fill?

  13. Well David I’ve known some men to be very fiesty!…….although is saying ‘fiesty’ not very PC these days?

Although The Circle does the job quite well anyway – certainly better than the previous David Reyne and Kim show.

And as for Hey Hey (again) it needs to seriously update its format if it genuinely wants to return next year – it’s all very well keeping the few fans who are watching it but it needs to gain new ones to see it last longer.

The lack of effort made in this regard has been very disapointing and it’s no wonder its ratings have slid – 9 must be upset especially given how much money they’ve poured into it.

  14. I hadn’t watched the “new” Hey Hey before last night, and to my eternal misfortune I saw 5 minutes of Plucka. I felt I had regressed 20 years.

And visually could there have been more artifacts?

  15. The Circle seems like a good show with plenty of fiesty ladies to keep things bubbling along.

As for Hey Hey…….D.O.A. for sure – the ratings simply don’t justify the massive cost for keeping it on air.

Yes it has its fans but where are they? The ratings don’t reflect the alledged ‘massive fanbase’ Daryl and others have claimed.

  16. It was the first Wednesday without either Lost or The Pacific, so it’s interesting to see Spicks & Specks and Lie To Me benefit from that (and not the appalling Hey Hey, thank goodness!).

  17. I really love The Circle, its such a fun show and as Ben said it really keeps me laughing as well. The girls just get on so well. I really hope it continues.

I actually would love to see Chrisie given her own late night talk show, maybe even co hosted with Dicko as the two of them have so much chemistry together.

  18. They need to test Hey Hey on Saturday night instead of having a week off for the state of origin. Just one week to see how it rates in it’s traditional slot.

  19. Hopefully The Circle keep it up. They are far more entertaining than the other morning shows, and keep me laughing when I’m home and able to watch.
