Airdate: The Queen

In this docudrama, five leading British actresses play Queen Elizabeth II.

Each episode focuses on turning points in the reign of Elizabeth II with a mixture of dramatised scenes, news archive and testimony from royal insiders.

The five are Diana Quick, Emilia Fox, Samantha Bond, Barbara Flynn and Susan Jameson.

However the series avoids the death of Princess Diana, possibly because it was already covered in 2006 award-winning film The Queen, starring Dame Helen Mirren

The Queen’s former communications secretary Penny Russell-Smith is an adviser and interviewee for the documentary drama which aired in the UK on Channel 4.

It premieres Wednesday July 14 at 8.30pm on Bio.
