‘Curry king’ Jimmy cut from MasterChef

Jimmy Seervai has been eliminated from MasterChef Australia.

31 year old Sydney chef Jimmy Seervai has been eliminated from MasterChef Australia.

The “curry king” was beaten in a cookbook challenge that required the remaining contestants to cook up three dishes that represented their dream cookbook.

They also had to name their book, which will comprise the publishing prize should they win on Sunday.

Television judge Maggie Beer joined the three regular judges to help decide the best dishes.

Seervai had proven volatile with many viewers who branded him as a one-skilled expert, relying on Indian curries. However, recently he had broadened his dishes, including winning the deadly “V8” cake. But being reinstated into the contest as others were culled also weighed against him.

“The restaurant is definitely happening,” laughed Seervai. “I can get the family working in it!”

“I came so close,” he said.

“I didn’t want today to be my last day in the kitchen but it is.”

Tomorrow night three popular contestants, Claire, Adam and Callum will battle it out for the final two places, by cooking a dinner party for the Governor-General.

  2. I’d say the Governor General has had many, many fancy pants dinners in her time and would have a very good idea of what food is acceptable and what isn’t.

Why wouldn’t the person eating the food have some input on the judging?

  3. @kathy: according to The Adelaide Advertiser today, Jimmy, who is a former Adelaide resident, plans to open his first restaurant in Sydney (Surry Hills) in November. He is planning to open another restaurant in Adelaide, and he and Callum is also planning to set up a stall in Adelaide’s Central Market.

  4. Go Adam! I’m thinking/hoping an Adam – Callum final, Adam to win….but I think it’ll be an Adam – Claire final.

I Really don’t like the idea of tonights challenge – who’s judging? the Governer general – is she a food critic? Tonights challenge should peer judged…..

  5. He is a very fine cook and wouldnt mind eating at his restaurant but he was painfully out of place in the show, his smug smile and uninspired cooking made it hard to warm to him… but all the best with the restaurant.
I hope Claire wins, but i agree with Den, Marion and Johnno would have been a great showdown but, thats the way the cookie crumbles..so to speak

  6. Was hoping for a Claire/Marion final, then a Claire/Courtney final. Now I’ll just be pleased if Claire even makes it to the final, as she seems to be unravelling more with each day that passes.

  7. Right now I am confused… where does Jimmy live and where is he opening his restaurant.

I thought he was from SA, yet the :-

    a) Daily Telegraph stays:-

‘He was the one-trick pony in the MasterChef race but Sydney’s new spice king Jimmy Seervai is wasting no time on his curry critics, rushing to open his Indian restaurant within months.

With the ink drying on the purchase of a new eatery in the inner-Sydney suburb of Surry Hills, the 31-year-old had to put his plans for Jimmy’s Spice Kitchen on hold when he scored his second chance in the cooking series last month.”

and b) ABCkid indicates his restaurant is in Christies Beach, South Aust.

    Confused…

  8. OMG ABCkid said

“The restaurant is definitely happening’ that is ganna (sic) be at Christies Beach SA!! :D”

I live in SA and would never travel to Christies Beach, and neither would 100,000thousands of other SA/Adelaide people.

Without being rude, But Good luck…. times are tough down South $ wise.
