The BBC this week announced a new Christmas special for Doctor Who, with the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and newlyweds Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill).
Joining them are veteran actor Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, The Singing Detective) and opera diva Katherine Jenkins, in her first acting role.
Writer Steven Moffat, commented: “Oh, we’re going for broke with this one. It’s all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters and the Doctor and a honeymoon and – oh, you’ll see. I’ve honestly never been so excited about writing anything. I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April. My neighbours loved it so much they all moved away and set up a website demanding my execution. But I’m fairly sure they did it ironically.”
Katherine Jenkins said: “I’m over the moon to be involved in the Doctor Who Christmas Special – I can’t quite believe it as it’s a part of the family tradition at the Jenkins household. I heard the news that I got the role on my 30th birthday and it was the best birthday present ever!”
Filming on the Christmas special will continue until August 2010.

Alrighty then, so we’re all agreed Ben came from the the depths of a sick donkey? Kewlio, then!
Yawn. When will Ben’s comment be over, biggest waste of time on TV Tonight ever
@Madame Tango, don’t say that, you’ll get rumours starting that Santa Clause is a Time Lord. 😀
Well given the title I think it’s fairly obvious who Gambon is kind of playing lol!!
Ben, that is the biggest insult you can make. Why do you have to leave your insulting comments about Doctor Who and its fans. It is the best thing on TV, billions times better then the crap you more then likely watch.
How can it be a waste of time? Its almost 50 years old, most shows a lucky to last one year. Next time, do research and you will discover it is the “Most successful sci-fi show in TV History” if not all TV.
You must have been happy when in finished in 1989, when the show was cancelled, I can see you now, jumping for joy, so all I can say is get in your tardis and go back to the 1990’s when Doctor Who wasn’t on.
Open up your imagination and get inspired. Its more then just a childrens show (as you said previously), its covers everything, reglion, polictics, race relations, and everything in between. If you look beyond the special effects and listen, you may enjoy it.
To conclude I will leave a comment that all parents say: If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.
Oh dear, poor Ben … Way outvoted again!
I have no idea who these great guest stars are, don’t much care … just thrilled to have more of Matt’s Doctor, Amy and Rory!
I wonder how long it’ll take before rumours start flying that Gambon is playing a Time Lord.
Yawn. When will Doctor Who be over, biggest waste of time on TV ever.
i’m sure this will be great, the recent season was excellent!
@steven_moffat is now on twitter! Appears to be really him.
Cool Michael Gambon!
Damn we have the best part of 6 months to wait for this one.
Let’s hope we see it before Australia Day, Valentines Day or Easter!
