IF Awards adds TV gongs

The IF Awards turns to the small screen to recognise an industry achiever and a performer.

Independent film award ceremony the Inside Film Awards has announced two new awards in television, the first TV awards it has embraced.

The IF Outstanding Contribution to Television award will acknowledge a person who has “underpinned the strength of the industry over at least 10 years” while the IF Out of The Box Award will recognise “an emerging talent who is likely to make the jump to the big screen in the future” (seemingly, as opposed to somebody who has already?).

IF Awards are now seeking submissions for the Out of the Box Award for Australian actors or actresses between the age of 15 – 35 years from a Drama, Comedy, Sitcom or long run series across free to air and subscription TV.

The submissions will be reviewed by an industry panel including TV executive producer Kim Vecera and TV producer Steve Knapman, agent Mark Morrissey and actor Matt Day.

6-8 nominees will be announced on Tuesday 12th October with the winner to be determined by a public online poll and announced at the IF Awards in mid November 2010.

The IF Outstanding Contribution to Television Award will be decided by an industry panel.

The ceremony, hosted last year by Eddie Perfect (pictured), was aired by both SBS and Showtime.

It will be held this year in mid-November in Sydney.

  1. “an emerging talent who is likely to make the jump to the big screen in the future”. What? The jump? Do they mean jumping out of an industry that is successful in this country to one that makes generally unwatched product? I’m not sure that the Australian film industry, or IF, are in any position to be so patronising towards television makers.

  2. @marcf,

Why the aggro? The magazine is called “Inside Film” not ‘TV Week’. I think you’ll find TV already has an entire awards program devoted to it.

  3. David, how can you submit people for the ‘Out of the Box’ Award? I just went to the IF Awards website and couldn’t see a link. Cheers x
