Liam McCormick has won FOX8 reality series Football Superstar.

McCormick, 18, from the Gold Coast, defeated Aaron Tuner from Adelaide and Devon Gibson from Perth for the title. His physical and technical skills impressed Brisbane Roar Coach Ange Postecoglou.

“Attitude-wise Liam seems like a kid who really wants this and that helps a lot, we’re confident he has got the fundamentals and now it’ll just be up to him,” Postecoglou said.

“He will be training with our first team which I think will take a while to adjust to but he’s got the attributes and good foundations for stepping up to that. We think he is up to the level of being able to train with us and if need be during the year he may be able to step into the A-League.”

McCormick wins a one year contract with Hyundai A-League team Brisbane Roar and a scholarship to the University of Queensland, Brisbane.

“When I tried out for Football Superstar I was thrilled to have made it into the final 16 and now to go on to win, well, it’s just out of this world,” he said. “To be part of the Roar is a great opportunity for me and I’m going to give it my all. I will forever be grateful to Football Superstar for giving me this chance to follow my dream,” he said.

Hosted by Kris Smith and Lee Furlong, this was the third year for the FOX8 series.

  1. ive quite enjoyed this show, i enjoyed it even more this year without Brian McFaddens ego bouncing off the screen. They didnt let Kris Smith do very much, but I thought he was pretty good in the airtime he did have
