Nine pitches Olympics to advertisers

“We are here to ask you for a lot of money,” Nine CEO David Gyngell told a gathering of potential Olympics advertisers last night.

“We are here to ask you for a lot of money,” Nine CEO David Gyngell told a gathering of potential Olympics advertisers last night at its Willoughby studios.

The function, held exactly two years before the opening ceremony of the London 20102 games, included
Nine sales director Peter Wiltshire, host Eddie McGuire, assembled before 350 advertisers, Australian IOC reps Phil Coles and John Coates, WIN Corp founder Bruce Gordon and his recently reappointed CEO John Hatcher and PBL Media CEO Ian Law..

Gyngell reinforced the Nine brand noting its News and current affairs, Australian drama (he had just watched the first three episodes of Cops LAC) and sporting events.

But a major technical meltdown then delayed proceedings.

When the presentation finally kicked off McGuire introduced an elaborate ceremony that featured Australian youth Olympians marching onstage with authentic flags and Oylmpic torches from every modern Olympics meet.

Nine offers four tiers of investment: four at the highest level (at around $10m each), six at the next level, then five Olympic Rings packages and three podium packages.

  1. They don’t want to broadcast it on anything but the main channel. They are in a partnership with Foxtel and that would reduce Foxtel”s audience.. If Foxtel’s package for the winter games was $49 for 4 channels, then get ready to open the wallets for the summer games…

  2. @jason shaw. lets just hope 7 don’t get. they will set the game back to when tvs weren’t even around when everyone had too go to the movies too see sporting events. if they get

  3. Is Channel 9 needing alot of money for the next AFL tv rights. I hope they don’t get AFL as they were ordinary the last time they have the AFL.

  4. odd that they would do this before the anti-siphoning review. or have they accepted hat they will only be allowed to broadcast on 1 channel?

  5. mr chandler – looks like you will be disappointed
