@ David – No i didn’t mean Kat stewart was overexposed…I actually really love those actresses I listed and am happy for them to be in as much product as possible. Was just meaning since Underbelly Kat seems to be cast in any role in her age group – 30 seconds, Tangle, Offspring….but your right she is relatively new on the scene so it is good for her!
Thanks DC and Stephen.
I love Kat, Asher and Don so I cannot wait for this.
@ Dave You forgot to mention the real elephants in the room – Lisa McCune and Rebecca Gibney. Justine, Asher, Claudia and Kat have been doing work on shorter run pay-tv series – that does not over expose them to the general public in my view at all. However, I take issue with the ABC always casting Susie Porter and Kerry Armstrong, particularly as they barely doing two series a year. Showtime is producing more drama hours than the national broadcaster.
DC: Kat Stewart wasn’t even on the TV map until two years ago. She was actually one of the new faces who got her TV break. So now we are saying she is overexposed? That’s a short honeymoon.
Yep, I got a total Ally McBeal vibe from the trailers for this one.
I can’t wait – this actually looks worth watching! Although my pick for the year so far is Spirited (which I’ve had the pleasure to preview and can I say after a shaky start if shaping up well)!!
still undecided on this show, the previews make it look kinda “stupid” but ill watch the first episode and make up my mind then
yes Belinda, Newtown in Sydney has a lot of similarities to Fitzroy
Add Kat stewart to that list of constantly working actresses
( ironically all those listed were the nominees for my outstanding actress this years logies)
I know its so tough for new faces to get a break these days in Australia, they just use the same people for eveything, no wonder all actors go off to LA. At least they give new faces a chance over there!
fitzroy is what stkilda used to be pre current yuppy days, but northside
You’d think Asher Keddie was one of the only 4 working actresses in Aust (Justine, Susie and Claudia) and Don Hany (and Roxburgh, Mendelsohn and Edgerton – the blokes) That said, I think this one is interesting, I bemoan that free to air dramas are the same old genre pieces – cops, robbers, soaps – relationship dramas seem only to be found on cable. I thought Keddie was superb in Love my way – but c’mon casting agents – there are lots of good actors and actresses to also consider for leads or supports. Believability is paramount for me, and when it is the same faces, it undermines the authenticity i feel.
I hope offspring is a refreshing change and finds an audience.
Belinda – not sure what Newtown in Sydney is like but a way I guess to descrive Fitzroy would be Arty, little old cafes, dimily lit rustic bars, trams constantly going through constantly, alleys with graffiti art on walls, an edgy crowd aka alternative uni students, hippie types etc.
Is Fitzroy like Newtown in Sydney?
Hope this works for 10, they have tried something similar with Crash Burn back in 2003 and it died :(, pity lotta work as an extra on that….
The Cooks.
Well I’m excited for this!
i love Asher Keddie!!!
I love Kat Stewart!!!
I love John Edwards dramas!!!
I love shows set in Melbourne especially the edgy Fitzroy!!!
And most of all I Love that Channel 10 are taking a gamble on a show thats
Not a Cop or Detective based programme!
Bring it on!. Cant wait for the review David!
@Craig, my understanding is the telemovie was shot as an one episode. There’s another 13 episodes that’ll be aired after that.
I must be one of the few that the ad doesn’t appeal to. Won’t be finding time in my schedule for this one sorry 10.
I think a tele movie is a good way to launch a show, but only is it’s a single 90 min ep and not 2 eps stuck together (aka this years Rafters launch)
This is probably the first scripted show from TEN since Rush I’m interested in.
ducko, Fitzroy is a suburb in Melbourne.
It’s great to finally see Asher Keddie getting a leading role. She’s been underused for far too long.
For the ill-informed, what does Fitzroy mean?
I’m very excited about this series!! Seems like a fun/warm series that we don’t really get here in Australia.
From the commercials, Asha Keddie looks less annoying in this than she was in Rush. I think I’ll be checking this show out.
Tangle Lite???
It looks kinda interesting and appears to have a great cast, but I might wait for it to come to Foxtel… Although, at least on Ten there’s less chance of the scheduling being messed around than on the other two channels. Will try it out, definitely.
So it’s set in Melbourne … hmm. At least the ads for it look ok.
