Renewed: MasterChef Australia

MasterChef Australia sticks with TEN for two more years, according to media reports.

As if there was any doubt….

MasterChef Australia has been confirmed for a third season with its three judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston all returning.

This is despite some speculation Seven might try to hijack some of the talent.

MasterChef is incredibly successful and we are not surprised by rumours of rival networks sniffing around, but be assured our judges are under contract to MasterChef,” a TEN spokesperson told the Sunday Herald Sun.

“They and the show won’t be going anywhere.”

The series is reported as having two more seasons guaranteed with TEN.

Corrected: However, next year’s series will be the last to be produced by FremantleMedia Australia with Shine Australia to retrieve back the license rights it leased to FremantleMedia Australia, along with The Biggest Loser.

Meanwhile media continue to dissect the show in almost daily articles now. Most tip Marion Grasby as the likely winner for this year, and some note that viewers were unhappy with the lack of an elimination last Thursday night. Aaron and Jimmy were left tied by the judges and remain in the contest.

A live announcement of the winner will be added into a predominantly pre-recorded Finale, likely to air on Sunday July 25th.

Junior MasterChef begins filming this month under Shine Australia.

  1. @ marco – it’s not just every time he talks – he shakes his hand with every syllable lol. I don’t mind it – it’s funny though.

I’ll watch next year if Matt preston promises not to do any more cringe worthy adverts. The gruen transfer made some good points last week about this show – i think it’s getting very close to being an infomercial.

“and the winner” / “and the loser is”………..always a bloody add break. Enough with the add breaks already!

Final point – i agree, junior masterchef will flop. Though i do like the idea of showing kids how to cook and getting them interested in food. Perhaps this would be best suited on a saturday morning?

  2. I think viewers had their fill when season 2 finishes and will damn the 3 season with the Junior Masterchef series over saturating the market and making people fed up with it by the time season 3 starts

  3. I’m loving season 2 more than season one. We’ve watched / recorded every damn episode. Sure, there’s been a couple of minor disagreeable moves but it’s a competition with real people, not a bloody fairy tale! Great television!

  4. I am enjoying Masterchef way more than last year for some reason and I don’t miss the female presenter at all – she was a waste of precious time. Much better to have the capacity to include experts in their fields, regardless of their gender. It is also having the effect of introducing me to Ten shows so I am watching The Good Wife, LIe to Me and Criminal Intent, Glee and Modern Family. I haven’t even sampled anything on Nine or Seven for ages. Freemantle are peddling formats from the UK – they’re not originators, and they are being outmaneuvered by Shine at every turn. The Shine guys are too smart to move Masterchef – David Mott deserves to be respected for taking risks, and Nine and Seven don’t know how to look after content creators. No brainer.

  5. well fremantle loses another job. Australian idol axed, SYTYCD and the apprentice very likely axed (not yet renewed), farmer wants a wife reduced to 1 season per year, junior MC went to shine, triple zero heros not returning, biggest loser gone to shine, and now so is masterchef. it’s a shame, they are one of our best production companies, i guess they will be turning a lot of attention to X factor.

  6. With Ten contestants remaining going in to the Thursday elimination, and a looming pair challenge the following Sunday a non-elimination was the only result possible.

Alternatively, they could have eliminated both of them, but that would have effectively defeated the purpose of adding contestants back in, and probably an even worse scenario, had they have gone down that route.

  7. I watched every episode of Season 1 but something isnt right this year. Its lacking a female host and they appear to be dragging it out for as long as it possible this year. Be careful Ten as you will lose all the goodwill the show has invested in it. I predict the kids version will be a flop….

  8. So if production switches from Fremantle to Shine, does that mean a completely new team working on it? And can someone tell me, was it fremantle or shine that worked on this year’s Biggest Loser?
