The Event: Trailer

Comic Con has wrapped in San Diego and if there is buzz for a show, it seems like it goes to NBC's The Event.

Comic Con has wrapped in San Diego and if there is buzz for a show, it seems like it goes to NBC’s The Event.

The series is described as “an emotional high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), an Everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his fiancée, Leila (Sarah Roemer), and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.” Also in the cast are Blair Underwood, Laura Innes and Željko Ivanek. The drama also features multiple points of view.

The Hollywood Reporter published these reactions from Twitter and media:

-“The Event? W-O-W!!!” — @fictionaddictn
-“I am officially & personally recommending The Event to #Lost fans. Best pilot I’ve seen so far from the new Fall shows” — @jopinionated
-“One word: incredible” — digitalspy.com
-“The Event could be a big hit for NBC, great premise, fantastic cast, and it’s a genre show” — @ernieestrella
-“Pilot for The Event was Very good. Tons of potential for this show. Fans of Lost and 24 take note.” —  popcultursavant
-“If the crowd reaction was any indication, THIS is the must-see series of the fall” — tvsquad.com
-“If the series premiere is any indication of what we can expect from this show, we’re in for a very exciting, suspenseful series.” — cinemablend.com

Let’s hope it doesn’t just live up to the trailer, but doesn’t do a FlashForward and sink without trace after an over-hyped pilot.

Should be coming to Seven…going to need Fastracking by the looks of this content.

  1. @Phoenix. That “endless parade of reality and factual shows” are what are paying my mortgage at the moment so I feel its worthwhile TV. But yes you have a point.

  2. @ Ben — Well, I’m prepared to give The Walking Dead a fair go if and when it appears on TV. And if it takes to long to be shown, I’ll probably just buy the DVD set. It’s bound to be better than the endless parade of reality and factual shows that are cluttering up the FTA channels at the moment!

  3. @Phoenix. Being a big fan of the comics I agree that yes it starts off very similar to 28 Days Later but that doesn’t last long. I’m hoping it’ll be a great series although I do have reservations about some of the casting.

  4. @Secret Squïrrel – Yep – I work for NBC. Did the whole thing!
I’ve seen the pilot. It’s awesome. Best NBC pilot in about 4 years. Prob since Heroes. But yes – we are al hoping the producers can keep the amazing storytelling up beyond a few eps…. that is always the real test.

  5. @ Ben – The trailer for The Walking Dead seems to be strongly inspired by the UK movie 28 Days Later. Huge similarities in the basic plots.

  6. You have to remember even though we have the trailer the people commenting have seen the pilot episode. So at least we know the pilot is going to be good. I cant wait to see this series. Hope Seven fast-tracks it.

  7. Sorry to be the wet blanket but I think it looks very average and having Blair Underwood in it is the kiss of death I think, however it does have the great Tony Todd in it so who knows.

The most exciting thing coming out of Comic Con has to the “The Walking Dead”. Like to see that on one of the commercial stations.

  8. meh, doesn’t matter how good it might be… it will be killed by the network stuffing it around…
And then we will have to utilise the alternatives at out finger tips, which is what they are supposed to be trying to stop… the morons!

  9. if last season taught people anything it is that you cannot judge a show by a trailer ie. trauma: fantastic trailer. but The Event looks great. it looks like a format like Flashforward but instead of basing a whole series on one thing there are multiple big storylines that all entertwine together. sounds good. hopefully it can make up for the loss of 24 and Lost. NBC seems to have turned a corner imo. their offerings seem to be the best of the 4 this year.

just rewatched some of the trailers. LoneStar also looks excellent, Outsourced, Raising hope, No ordinary Family, all good. but there are so many bad looking sitcoms.

  10. If you’d just told me that there was a show already in the pipelines to take up the mantle of Lost (quality script, convincing acting, complex and involving storyline, mega-$), I would have been very sceptical, but after seeing that trailer – wow.

@Russell: (If that’s true,) congrats! I’m officially interested.

@Craig: Thx for the link. Good interview.

@Dean & Shane: I agree. I hope both the show-makers and show-programmers have learnt from the problems with shows like Heroes and FF (and even Lost, particularly with regard to scheduling). Although it got better in the second half, I really hope this doesn’t to a FF.

@Tony H: Go to your room.

  11. After that trailer I really really want to get excited about this but am not expecting another Lost just yet.

The sad thing is that regardless Ch 7 or Ch 9 will do the same as they do with any other serialised US drama and schedule it at different times each week before it finally dies at the ‘sexy new time’ of 11:30pm.

  12. I’m really looking forward to The Event. I’m a big fan of shows that have complex storylines that extend for the entire season, eg Lost, 24, Flash Forward, etc. I find these shows far more engaging and interesting than shows where a new problem or mystery is introduced and solved each week.

  13. This is one show I am really looking forward too! Love the look of it and hopefully the NBC & people in charge of it have learnt from past mistakes of other shows (Flashforward & Heroes). When I saw the promo a while back, I had the same reaction as most at Comic Con.

If it’s to be a success for Ch 7, it definitely needs to be shown within a few days of it being shown in the U.S.

  14. I saw this weeks ago and it looks fantastic, check YouTube they also have other clips from the stars.

I hope it does better than FlashForward but they are equaling it more with Lost and 24, if it does half as well as those they are on a winner!

FYI here is Scott Patterson, one of the key players on the show. Best known here for Gilmore Girls and more recently Aliens in America, he was also in a couple of the SAW movies and did a stint on 90210.
