Will Russell Tovey join Torchwood?

Fans seem to want it, but Being Human's Russell Tovey says he has "no idea" if he will be joining the cast of Torchwood.

Being Human‘s Russell Tovey had a fleeting scene in David Tennant’s final Doctor Who story, when he the Doctor met up with Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) in an alien bar.

But Tovey says he has “no idea” if he will be joining the cast of Torchwood as Midshipman Alonso Frame.

“[I have] no idea. Genuinely no idea.” he told fans at the Being Human panel at Comic-Con.

“There’s been lots of rumours. I did that scene (in The End of Time) and I never really thought anything of it.

“To be honest, I’ve never really watched Torchwood,” he revealed. “But since (that scene) I’ve been bombarded with messages asking ‘Are you gonna be Jack’s lover?’ I genuinely don’t know.”

Make it so…

  1. Given the information we’ve been given for the characters so far, I don’t think there’s going to be much room for Midshipman Frame while Jack and Gwen are dashing around the world, teaming up with CIA Agents and paedophiles…

And maybe it’s just me but I do not even remotely understand the appeal of this actor, let alone the character. He turns up for ten minutes in Voyage Of The Damned, and suddenly he’s in every conversation Russell T Davies makes.

  2. Big fan of Werewolf George, but I wouldn’t want to see Midshipman Alonso Frame added to the cast of Torchwood Series 4.

It was bad enough that RTD tried to smooth-over Ianto’s rather dull (and entirely worthless not to mention pointless) demise in Children of Earth by having the Doctor set Captain Jack up with Alonso. There’s no need to continue that relationship in the next series of Doctor Who.

Besides, Captain Jack is meant to be omnisexual. They should pair him with a sentient and sexy space slug or something. Or maybe he could date an adult Adipose?

  3. Well they do make a cute couple – anything is possible!

Torchwood is a brilliantly acted and written show, can’t wait to see where it goes next.

Although I’d like to see it lighten up a little after the rather harrowing events of Children of Earth – excellent though as it was……
