X Games in 3D

ESPN provides eight hours of 3D coverage of the 16th X Games in Los Angeles, with Skateboarding, Skating, BMX, Moto X and Rally Car Racing.

ESPN today begins screening live coverage the 16th X Games in Los Angeles, which has more than 200 of the world’s best athletes in Skateboarding, Skating, BMX, Moto X and Rally Car Racing.

ESPN is also running its first 3D broadcast outside of the United States for the X Games.

The sports broadcaster has partnered with Foxtel and Austar to provide eight hours of 3D coverage from July 29 to August 1.

For the broadcast, ESPN will reportedly use “14 native 3D cameras at the Los Angeles Coliseum, including its ‘Mega Mo’ ultra slow-motion 3D camera. An in-car 3D camera will be used during the Rally Car competition and a pole camera will be placed near the skate/BMX mega ramp.”

ESPN’s 3D telecast of the X Games will be available in Australia to all Foxtel iQ2 and Austar MyStar HD subscribers with 3D-ready televisions.

Foxtel’s director of sport Pete Campbell said: “Foxtel was the first to bring Australians 3D television and we’re thrilled to partner with ESPN for another ground-breaking sport experience.”
