A Current Affair has confirmed Tracy Grimshaw will interview Bert and Patti Newton in an interview on Monday night.
It will be the first time the Newtons have spoken publicly in any detail about their son’s behaviour and rehabilitation.
Last night ACA broke the news that Matthew Newton became engaged to Rachael Taylor prior to his widely-reported meltdown.
Nine still has an episode of 20 to 1 scheduled for Tuesday night with the poorly-timed subject “Madness and Meltdowns.”

the cynic inside me wonders at the timing of this interview … hmmm!!!
I do hope he gets the help he needs.
I can’t believe that the Newtons (senior) want a bar of making this so public!! Matthew Newton has issues he needs to deal with in private, it’s none of our business. I don’t condone his behaviour at all, but I feel sorry for him. He has an illness that requires treatment. I hope he gets the help he needs. I wish him and his family well in the recovery!!!!
Considering all of 9 programs: Today, Kerri Anne and ACA have done some muck raking reports on Matt Newton’s behaviour, i am surprised that Bert and Patti want to put themselves through it. 7 also have been milking the story for all it is worth. I feel most strongly for the Newton seniors, as they deal with this impactful turn in their son’s troubled life – it’s going to be hard to ever rebuild his career now.
Should be interesting, I’ll definitely be watching.
Hopefully Tracy won’t treat them like she did Gillard / Johns / Abbott / Anybody she interviews post-Ramsay.
That is one ACA I won’t be watching
David, your last par just proves the point that 9 will scrape further than the bottom of the barrel in terms of ethics … they’ll do a complete excavation.
