ABC TV has announced Carole Sklan as its new Head of Fiction.
Sklan, who has been a Commissioning Editor for ABC TV Drama for 12 months, was formerly with SBS Drama, where she commissioned East West 101, Saved, Carla Cametti PD, the second season of Wilfred plus Marx and Venus, Mary and Max and Noise.
The newly-created Head of Fiction will be responsible for acquiring and commissioning adult fiction across ABC1, ABC2 and ABC Multiplatform. The role covers both drama and narrative comedy.
She was previously an ABC TV Deputy Commissioning Editor and Executive Producer on Seachange, Something in the Air and Simone De Beauvoir’s Babies
Kim Dalton, Director of ABC TV said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Carole to this challenging new role. She has a great track record of working with the independent production sector. Her focus is always on recognising and developing projects based around strong ideas with the potential to engage and entertain audiences.”
Sklan said: “I am thrilled to be taking on this role at a time when additional Government funding means we can now increase the volume and diversity of Australian dramas and comedies on ABC TV. It’s a wonderful opportunity to work with outstanding writers, producers, directors and actors in producing iconic ABC shows.”
The announcement as part of major operational structural follows some industry speculation about the search for a new Head of Fiction.
Sklan will take up her new Melbourne-based position immediately.

Pity then it was Glennys Rowe who can rightly take credit for those initiating those shows.
Just going on East West 101 & Wilfred alone, I think it’s a great move!
That is just plain sad.
Great move!
I’m just trying to think of some drama the ABC has made in Melbourne recently… Bastard Boys.. um… I’m sure there are more. Summer Heights High was shot in Melbourne as was/is the Librarians. My impression is that much more is made in Sydney by the ABC.
I hope she gets out of Melbourne every now and then. We don’t need every Aussie drama produced there.
Silly.
