ELEVEN to launch in early 2011

Updated: Neighbours, Dexter, Futurama, Supernatural, Stargate, Smallville, Nurse Jackie, 90210 are all coming to ELEVEN -and more News on TEN.

TEN has confirmed it will launch its new digital multichannel, ELEVEN early next year.

The new SD channel promises ‘fun and bold programming with particular appeal to the distinctly youthful market.’

It will air all-new episodes of Futurama, The Cleveland Show, Supernatural, Stargate, Dexter, Smallville, The Office, Nurse Jackie, 90210 and more.

It will also be the free-to-air home of the iconic The Simpsons.

Neighbours will also move to ELEVEN leaving question marks about the Network’s plans for local content on TEN. It will remain at 6:30pm weeknights.

Chief programming officer David Mott said: “Neighbours is an important and cherished member of the Network Ten family.

“We believe Neighbours is perfectly suited to ELEVEN’s audience strategy and will find a successful and enduring home on ELEVEN. We will round out the first 25 years with a bang, and give Australia’s most successful drama a new home to keep it vibrant in the schedule for the next 25.”

FremantleMedia Australia CEO, Ian Hogg said: “Just as Neighbours forged new territory for TEN in 1986, so we will again for ELEVEN in 2011. We are very proud of the faith being placed in Neighbours and the key role we will be playing in ELEVEN’s launch and line-up. Our storyline plans for 2011 are both bold and dramatic. Neighbours fans have much to look forward to for many years to come.”

Shifting Neighbours and The Simpsons signals changes for TEN’s early evening line-up. Following from News at Five bulletins, TEN will introduce a new half-hour national news-based program at 6.00 pm weeknights targeting viewers seeking a smarter, more informed, considered and insightful approach to the stories, issues, events and news-makers of the day.

Then at 6.30pm weeknights and at 6.00pm weekends, TEN will present a half-hour locally-presented and produced news service in all markets, focussing on the key issues in each State.

ELEVEN will also draw upon more than 70,000 hours of content from CBS’s library, including Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, JAG, Frasier, Judging Amy, Happy Days and MacGyver, to name a few.

In addition, Network Ten Pty Limited and CBS Studios International announced the proposed formation of a joint venture, ElevenCo Pty Limited (ElevenCo), which will provide content to ELEVEN. Network Ten will hold 66 2/3 per cent equity in ElevenCo, with CBS Studios Inc. holding a 33 1/3 per cent share.

As part of the arrangement to form the proposed joint venture, CBS has agreed to extend its existing long-term output deal with Network TEN.

CEO Grant Blackley said: “CBS Studios is a leading producer of quality programming for the global marketplace. In addition to its successful pipeline of content to the CBS network, which has been the lead network in the US for the last 8 out of 10 years, CBS produces content for the youth-targeted network, the CW. Our established output deal with CBS has been long and fruitful, delivering hits such as NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Rules of Engagement, Medium, The Good Wife and the much-anticipated Hawaii Five-0 to Australian audiences.”

“Importantly, the joint venture will ensure long term continuity of this prolific US content pipeline, underpinning the sustainability of ELEVEN and also delivering continued supply of high quality international programming for TEN.

“ELEVEN will deliver a distinct destination for Australian consumers and advertisers. The channel’s ‘distinctly youthful’ focus will be well suited to fostering a strong level of online community and social media engagement, and the format will provide opportunities for a high level of sponsor integration – such as segment and program hostings – delivered in ways that will resonate with ELEVEN’s audience,” Mr Blackley said.

ELEVEN will replace ONE SD.

  1. The channel should’ve started broadcasting sometime this year, not next year.
Smallville : Eleven will need to screen double episodes, as they’re 2 years behind.
Friday Night Lights, Army Wives : Last time Ten screened them in graveyard
shift timeslots, they were showing 2 year old episodes of both.

They can also screen Californication season 4 on it, but Ten may want to retain it for their own network.

  2. So, TEN seem to have suddenly noticed that its fallen somewhat behind and realised they needed to do something about that pesky 6-7 slot. Yet they still refuse to bear even one iota of responsibility or blame for the slow ratings demise of an icon that was primarily caused by the hands of the powers-that-be and their shoddy marketing department.

While Seven cross-promoted the hell out of its stable of soap stars and presenters on reality shows, TEN was creating Z-grade celebrities off the backs of BB and Idol. Is it any wonder that Seven has become the ratings monster it has, cross-promoting across all demographics as it has, creating a consistent feel across its brands and programs, making them “familiar”. Am I the only one that can feel Seven’s smugness, not least Tim Worner’s.

And no, TEN didn’t “try out” Neighbours at 7pm against Home and Away in the early 90s as someone has said. Neighbours was already in this slot before Home and Away was placed there by Seven. Pity that TEN, back then, felt the pressure to move their baby out of harm’s way after barely a week.

  3. They need to add youth-orientated programs –

    – The OC reruns
    – Big Brother (not yet of course – give it five years or so before the format can be revived)

Great to see Dollhouse on free-to-air and The Simpsons/Neighbours finding a new home – this looks like a promising counterpart to TEN unlike that of 7TWO which was a pretty big fail to pull in audiences for Seven’s B grade leftovers.

  4. I hope Foxtel rebroadcasts channel ten’s new channel Eleven because they are moving Neighbours to the new channel and as I’ve got Foxtel, I want continue to record to my Foxtel harddrive.

  5. Didn’t we all say that Ten would hold Supernatural until they launched another channel? They might call it first run and on Aus TV it is, but the episodes will be a year and a half old by the time they air. I doubt there will be a single Supernatural fan who hasn’t already seen the episodes and bought the DVD’s.

  6. Under CBS Library are 90210 and Melrose Place, I assume this is also first run content, not the original seasons from the 90’s.
It does seem like a good line up, just hope they keep it consistant.
Id expect a lot of the CBS content will be daytime fillers when the target audience is primarily at work/school/uni…

  7. I don’t see Monk or Pysch anywhere!!!!!
Is it The Beady Bunch kinda similar to The Brady Bunch??

Name and logo much better than Mate. Some stuff i can watch. But no Monk & Pysch. I’m only up to series 3 of Monk and 2 of Pysch. Come on Ten.

  8. Does this mean all simpsons eps will be on 11 or just the repeats?? cause new eps can rate very high if ten put it in a better slot, remember tuesdays figures

  9. 2.5 hours of news? Not sure if that’s any good since ABC24 is on now.
    @Andrew
I think there Ten are forced to put live sports on both their main and digital channels by the Gov thing (forgot what it was called)

Wish they’d have SciFI nights again, and maybe Battlestar Galactica?
Maybe Supernatural won’t get bumped around again too. I think I prefer GO content to be honest (They must have a deal with The CW).

  10. Haven’t read any other comments yet, but they should have called it TWELVE. One syllable, catchier, easier.

God I hope they finally give us Ferguson. Letterman bites.

  11. People need to stop complaining about a lack of aussie content on this channel and chill for a second. TEN are not going to instantly commission a whole bunch of australian shows for an un-launched channel which are not going to count towards their yearly quotas. Give it time.. The channel has only been announced today, and people are already complaining.. Can we not just be glad that there is going to be some more variety in the tv landscape.. and best of all, it’s not costing us a cent. And, can we be glad that Ten are good to their viewers, and are not going to be pulling the plug on their shows every other week like GO!
Agreed? or is it just me?
