Packed to the Rafters topped two million viewers this week, all without any wedding, birth, character leaving or season finale.

The Seven drama pulled in 2.01m viewers, as Seven scored the first four positions in overnight figures. Seven News, Today Tonight and Minute to Win It all topped 1.4m viewers.

Top Gear was a close second for Nine on 1.33m for its first hour with Modern Family / Rules of Engagement on 1.21m / 996,000 for TEN.

Of concern will be Neighbours (596,000) losing viewers from The Simpsons (645,000) before climbing again for The 7PM Project (920,000).

Seven was the clear leader in both primary and network shares for Tuesday.

  1. the guy you had last week on minute to win it i thought he done a get job in winning that money.Myself wouldnt mine to get on the game to play to win hard cash for my family. Its like you are a kid again but playing for money instead. I am so glade that guy went out and bought his home dream thats great congratulations mate.

  2. I have been enjoying the Libby/Steph storyline on Neighbours this week, I think the show needs more conflict like this instead of everyone getting along all the time.

  3. If the concept of Rafters was presented to a Hollywood producer, it would never have been made. Drama/Sitcom about average family – empty nesters whose kids all return home. Been there, done that. US and UK… You need a ‘hook’, now if the family were actually from Alpha Centuri well … oops, done that too. There really is nothing new under the TV sun anymore. Of course Rafters does have a hook – it’s Australian, and Mr and Mrs Australia like to watch sitcoms about Mr and Mrs Australia.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking Rafters – I actually like it. But I think it gets held up too often as the epitome of great drama (or is it comedy) – “there’s all the ‘adrenaline’ shows – and then there’s Rafters – we need more like Rafters.” A fun show – but it needs to be kept in perspective.

  4. Carbo’s character worked well in earlier series when he was romantically linked to Julie Rafter’s best friend played by the exquisite Caroline Brazier. He is not a great actor, he benefits from the experience of older actors – he mugs it up and is too hammy with Ben and Melissa. All of them are stronger with better actors. Small doses of Carbo i reckon are preferrable – he is likeable on DWTS. I really hope Logie voters get behind Angus for next year – he deserves recognition.

  5. Great result…but agree dave…..last night wasnt a very consistent episode…sorry but the Carbo character needs to go. His stupid plotlines dont fit in with the rest of the stories particuarlry the stupid kid stalker one last night. Its at its best when each episode focuses on one character…

Agreed Angus Maclaren is the star actor of the cast in my opinion, he is fantastic and was sublime last night…..easily one of the best young actors in Australia. Outstanding work from him

    1. Carbo character serves them for both light stories and some ethnicity, but the idea of becoming a ‘YouTube sensation’ for saying “walla-walla-wincha” was inane and went on too long.”Chk Chk Boom” became a hit not for the words but for the context.

  6. Personally not my type of show, too mamby pamby for my liking but I guess people will watch a half decent Australian drama when there’s nothing else on.

  7. Most appropriate pic for this item, David. Angus MClaren is such a fine young actor, and really developing in his role. The promos may have contributed to the switch on, as it seemed to be filled with tears and gravitas, but across the hour i thought it was less dramatic – but strong nonethless. It carefully navigates comedy and drama, it is quite unique among the other styles of show. Champers all around them today!

  8. great achievement, how many season 3 dramas can do that these days.
and there was hardly any advertising either, i watched most of 7’s sunday lineup and CM on monday and didn’t see a single ad. a lot of 7’s promotion space seems to be used on new shows parenthood, X factor and covert affairs.
