TEN tipped to announce Eleven

A new digital channel aimed at 16-39's will complement TEN's broader 25-54 viewers.

TEN is expected to announce its new entertainment channel, Eleven, today -according to The Australian.

The new digital channel will replace ONE SD and focus on a young demographic of 16-39 while TEN reaches out to 25 – 54.

The network is hosting briefings for analysts, investors and the media today in which Eleven is expected to be announced. TEN has indicated a new channel coming for some time, originally due earlier in 2010.

Titles such as MasterChef Australia, The 7PM Project, The Good Wife, NCIS and and upcoming dramas Bluebloods, Defenders and Hawaii Five-0 are expected to remain on TEN but there is speculation Glee, The Cleveland Show and upcoming sitcoms Raising Hope and Mixed Signals may shift to Eleven.

Other potential titles could include the return of Supernatural and the premiere of the Melrose Place remake.

The Network is also likely to announce more from Hamish and Andy soon.

The third channel will follow Seven announcing 7mate last week, to launch September 25.

TEN’s 2011 Programme Launch is set for mid-September.

ELEVEN to launch in early 2011.

  1. and keep it at the same time every night , not like Letterman !!!!! one night is 11.15, one night is 12am, one is 1am – stick to ONE time !!

  2. So is 11 going to be a variety channel?? Didn’t they try this already – tried to make one of their channel’s into something for one specific genre? Anyway there is only one 11 and he’s over on the ABC fighting Aliens in his Tardis!!

  3. I think the whole September launch suddenly makes sense. Eleven, would probably launch straight after the Commonwealth Games, with major promotion, with the One SD feed shutting down, straight after the Delhi closing ceremony, and a week later, Eleven would probably launch.

As for Ten switching demos: It’s a change for the better. Hopefully, the change can inspire the network to deliver a relaunch, much like 1991’s “That’s Entertainment” (which launched the first version of the current Ten logo, after a rocky period for 10 both in the ratings and fiscally) that can steer 10 away from the last decade (which has been really dominated by one slogan, Seriously…)

If 10 wants to take the 25-54 demo seriously, then “Seriously” has to be ditched.

  4. Surely Glee is too popular for a multichannel, although it would be good for reruns/encores. I’m looking forward to animation marathons while surely will return to this channel (Simpsons/Futurama/Cleveland plus whatever else they have rights to)

  5. Any indication as to whether this Channel TEN’s 3rd channel will become available in regional area’s at the same time as Metro?

If it does become available in regional area’s it could go on Channel 55.

  6. Moving Glee – what a stupid decision; the program finishes Season 1 with 1.7 million viewers; surely they won’t shunt it away to a digital channel where it will get what a max of 500k?

Besides that I mean even if Glee did go to the channel it would not bother me as I would still follow it; but the bulk of the population?

Glad to see they have a clear strategy of what they want to do and knowing Ten they will actually stick to it not let it become Go where shows are ripped off 10 minutes before they start.

  7. Moving Glee to 11 is a bad idea IMO, it’s one of the few good shows they have on TEN.

The only thing I hate about all this is without ONE SD many will now miss out on their favorite sports unless they have a HD TV or set top box! Ditto for 7Mate and what ever Nine is doing.

I fear my MasterCard is about to take another hit!

  8. They would be crazy to shift Masterchef over to Eleven, It’s been thier highest rating show in 09/10. ..and their most rigged show since Australian Idol!
