Steven Spielberg’s big-budget dino-drama Terra Nova will premiere in Australia on FOX8 sometime in 2011 / 2012.

Foxtel Executive Director of Television, Brian Walsh, said, “Terra Nova will screen on Foxtel’s flagship channel FOX8 as part of our shared output deal with 20th Century Fox and Network TEN. It is great news for the Australian television industry that producers have chosen Queensland as home base for this exciting new series.

“Fox have produced some of the most prolific and critically acclaimed television series resonating with viewers around the world and with a top notch creative team led by Spielberg Terra Nova is set to captivate audiences.”

Starring Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars) the series is set in a future when the world is dying from overdevelopment and overcrowding. As a last resort scientists find a way to go back to prehistoric Earth to try and undo the damage that has been caused.

The drama was this week confirmed it will be largely filmed at the Gold Coast’s Warner Roadshow Studios where it is already being hailed as a major win for the local industry.

Production is due to commence in October with a preliminary US launch in May before the series rolls out later in the year.

Terra Nova joins five other 20th Century Fox series that have already been announced, including Ride-Along, The Gates, The Glades, Neighbours from Hell and Louie.

  1. craig, my understanding is that ten get first 2 picks and they chose Raising Hope then stupidly chose Mixed Signals then after that it alternates between foxtel and ten. when ten didn’t chose Terra Nova i though it might be because it wasn’t part of this seasons output deal but would turn up in the 2011 spoils, or wasn’t distributed by Fox. looks like they just didn’t want it that much.

@David, the last article on Fox shows you wrote said that Foxtel picked up LoneStar. do you know if that is that still true?

  2. A deal with 20th Century Fox and Network TEN, so does that mean Fox8 first them TEN later?

I know some won’t be pleased but I’m glade to have another reason to keep my Austar connection.
