As promised, Seven is fastracking NBC’s new high-concept drama The Event, starring Jason Ritter and Blair Underwood.

It will premiere Monday, September 27 at 8.30pm.

The Event is an emotional, high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter, The Class), an everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his would-be fiancée, Leila (Sarah Roemer, Disturbia), and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.

Sean’s quest will send ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including newly elected U.S. President Elias Martinez (Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood, In Treatment); Sophia Maguire (Emmy Award nominee Laura Innes, ER), who is the leader of a mysterious group of detainees; and Leila’s shadowy father (Scott Patterson, Gilmore Girls). Their futures are on a collision course in a global conspiracy that could ultimately change the fate of mankind.

The series premieres in the US on September 20.

  1. I still doubt illegal downloads have a huge impact on the over all ratings, I think it’s more marketing and the time slot. Say if a show has a million viewers here and 50k have downloaded it, that’s only 5%, hardly a huge hit when moving it an hour later can half the viewers. I still think Wednesday would have been better but understand the Monday time slot.

That said I do think TEN has done the right thing with Glee and House airing them just hours (next day for House) after the US should keep interest high and that’s more important to most viewers that downloads, if I feel a network is doing it’s best then I’m happy to wait a few days or week for the show.

Will Nine now follow with new Mentalist, TBBT and 2.5 men on Mondays?

  2. This ultimately for 7 depends on how they market it, if they do market it. Last season, they debuted FlashForward big, but they pretty much stopped advertising it, whereas Lost, 7’s other big ABC pickup, stayed at the top of the ratings much longer, some will say that by 2009, everybody downloaded it, but a reason why it dropped out of the ratings was because of 7’s lack of marketing.

Hope it stays around, because it looks pretty good.

  3. question will be how much 7 will edit out or if it will show the full episode (I know they sometimes edit things out…. which is another reason why people pirate, so they can see the full thing).

  4. @Phoenix – Seven can only air what NBC airs in the US (the curse of fasttracking) and they will go on their winter break in Late November, probably for about 2 months. Some site have projected air dates only until late October, but more will be added as info comes to hand.

Also The Event only has a 13 ep order, as of now but is likely to get a back 9 pickup if the ratings are good.

  5. @Phoenix – Don’t the US usually take the shows off screen over the christmas period? I know a lot of shows in the US have mid-season breaks from December to like Feb, allowing for the Summer shows to finish their seasons…unless thats only happens to the shows i watch…

Anyway, The Event looks intriguing. I’ll definitely be IQing it while Good News Week is still on.

  6. Awesomeness. Can hardly wait. Hope it doesn’t do a FF, too.

@Craig – Wed prob isn’t going to happen because it’d be up against Spicks and Gruen, plus House is starting again on Ten. Mon is prob the best night. I can wait a week.

@RichTB – did Ten ever show the rest of S2 of Jericho? I seem to recall that they stuck it between BB Fri Night Live and something like Popstars and were presumably surprised when it tanked, and pulled it after 1 Ep.

  7. I’ve been following the news on this show for a couple of months and all the reviews are positive, Seven is even running a promo listing some of them. It’s been compared to Lost and 24, now if it can do as good as those 2 shows it will be fantastic. I guess it’s now up to the public to vote with their remotes. Pity it can’t be on sooner, say Wednesday at 8:30, push the dying CH back to 9:30.

  8. Expected this.

It sounds an awful lot like Flashforward, but the trailers look good..

I don’t expect this to see past a second season. But hopefully it will be a good ride, like Jericho and the first few seasons of Prison Break.

  9. A “high-octane conspiracy thriller” about a “cover-up” that could “change the fate of mankind”… being fast-tracked to Seven from the US focussing on “an eclectic band of strangers”… hmm, is this a promo for The Event or FlashForward 2?

Here’s hoping this one’s given the chance to build an audience (both here and in its homeland). I’m getting kind of over new series being canned before their time.
