Cameras roll on third season of East West 101

Aden Young and Matt Nable join the cast of SBS's award winning crime drama.

Filming has begun on the third season of East West 101.

Aden Young (Mao’s Last Dance, Cosi, Black Robe, The Killer Elite) and Matt Nable (The Final Winter, Mei Mei, SIS: Special Investigation Section, The Killer Elite) and have joined the cast.

Matt Nable said, “I am thrilled to be joining this highly acclaimed drama and brilliant cast. I have great respect for the producers and crew, and have been a fan of the show for some time. The messages of the production are relevant for all Australians.”

Don Hany, Susie Porter, Aaron Fa’aoso, Renee Lim, Danielle Farinacci and Tasneem Roc all return.

Also appearing this season are Aaron Jeffrey, Tammy MacIntosh, Richard Carter, Robert Mammone, Jacek Koman, Gosia Dobrowolska, Victoria Haralabidou and Rena Owen.

The third season explores the fallout from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan through crimes committed in Australia.

Producer Steve Knapman said, “The third season presented the usual challenge, if not a greater one. The inspiration behind the scripts came from the war zones of Iraq and Afghanistan. I was interested in exploring the universal truths of the experience of combat on men, as well as the ‘collateral damage’ of innocent civilians that was the consequence of such supposed ‘humanitarian intervention’.”

Producer Kris Wyld said, “In this season we put Malik and Wright under intense pressure. When a cop’s personal life is directly affected by an act of crime, just how far will he or she go in pursuit of justice? Watch and see.”

It is directed by Peter Andrikidis and written by Michael Miller, David Ogilvy, Katherine Thomson, Michelle Offen and Vanessa Bates, with the final episode written by Steve Knapman and Kris Wyld.

It will air early 2011 on SBS.

  1. Yippee – easily the best cop show made in australia. This third series is long overdue. Using events in Irak/Afghanistan will allow Don Hany to develop his chracter and I’m looking forward to the conflict between his view of justice and regard for his homeland. I know SBS is strapped for cash but they should promote this for ll it’s worth. Hearty congratulations all round .

  2. Yawn, more of the same old implausible crap. I guess it was too much to ask for the series to evolve instead of thinking all crimes perpetrated have some connection to the war in Iraq and the Middle East involving people of arabic descent.

Once again most of the actors are impressive and the guest cast looks good, it’s just a shame they have to be involved in such a one dimensional politically correct drama. Thankfully it will be buried in some graveyard slot on the SBS.
