Grant Denyer hosts Iron Chef Australia

"I'm as green as a capsicum when it comes to food," admits Iron Chef Australia's new host.

Grant Denyer has been announced as host of Seven’s version of Iron Chef Australia, currently filming in Melbourne.

The adaptation of the long-running Japanese cooking show sees aspiring professional cooks in a “kitchen stadium” using wild ingredients such as such as live squid and live large octopi. They will face off against Neil Perry, Guy Grossi and Guillaume Brahimi.

Judging will be Sydney food critic and Ovation channel personality Leo Schofield, plus Fairfax food critic Larissa Dubecki and News Limited’s Simon Thomsen.

Commentating with Denyer is Fairfax writer Richard Cornish.

Iron Chef America‘s “Chairman” Mark Dacascos also repeats his role.

“This is an exciting new challenge for me,” Denyer said. “I’m not a foodie. I’m as green as a capsicum when it comes to food. Living on the road with Sunrise, my cuisine consists of two-minute noodles and chiko rolls. I’m going to enjoy being inspired by great food and talented chefs. It’s a huge honour to be involved.”

  1. Ridiculous! When will Seven learn that giving him more work is not helping anyone?

If the only credentials for the hosting gig were:
    – being able to grin ridiculously to camera
    – being able to hold a microphone

they could have got a garden ornament to host.

  2. No no no no no no, in the name of all that is holy No! Not only is he overexposed, he is all wrong for this. He is much too light and fluffy, which is fine for Sunrise but this is Kitchen Stadium! There are no children or puppies involved! Just look at that picture, he is literally dwarfed. Geez Seven, fancy treating Iron Chef as a joke while trying to make spinning around in toilet paper (Minute to Win It) look epic.

  3. I was thinking this would be an SBS show to accommodate the original Iron Chef. Can’t see Seven doing the franchise any good. If it was on SBS, i would have given it a go, but not as a Seven production. Another reason not to watch Seven.

  4. Seriously, does Australian TV have no dignity? Can’t the make Anything that is even halfway original?

Let’s hope this and the thousands of cooking shows flooding the market fails.

  5. Can’t channel 7 get new hosts…i mean this cries “over exposure”.

grant denyer on australia’s got talent, sunrise and now iron chef….i mean give someone new a chance.

i’m suprised grant wasn’t chosen as host of x factor.
