Newton to comply with AVO

Actor Matthew Newton will agree to an apprehended violence order and sever ties with former girlfriend Rachael Taylor.

Actor Matthew Newton will agree to an apprehended violence order and sever ties with former girlfriend Rachael Taylor.

The Australian notes that magistrate Lee Gilmour yesterday put in place an interim AVO that is due to be confirmed when the matter is next mentioned on October 25.

The court heard the order would stipulate that Newton not approach or contact Taylor, except through lawyers, or destroy or deliberately damage her property.

The proceedings follow last month’s incident when Taylor reportedly suffered “two unprovoked assaults” in Rome.

There have been no criminal charges laid against Newton over the allegations.

Newton’s lawyer, Chris Murphy, indicated his client’s intention to agree to the order.

“It is to be a consent order without admissions,” he said.

Newton was dumped as host of The X Factor following the incident, as his parents sought to explain their position on A Current Affair.
