Ovation Channel appointments

The Ovation channel recently appointed a new Channel Manager and Head of Programming, Acquisitions & Production.

The Ovation channel last week appointed Jackie Gent as Channel Manager and Jennie Hughes to Head of Programming, Acquisitions & Production.

Gent was previously Head of Programming and Acquisitions for Ovation and DV1, having been instrumental in growing the channel brand and audience.

“I have a genuine passion for the channel and its viewers, and look forward to seeing Ovation grow as a brand in its new premium, à la carte capacity”, she said. “I am very much looking forward to the challenges which lie ahead in growing our subscriber base, as well as bringing a fresh approach to our programming, whilst staying faithful to the type of television our audience loves”.

Jennie Hughes began her career in the music industry with Sony Music, Warner Music and EMI Music Publishing, until moving across to the film and television industry where she held senior positions in film finance, acquisitions and sales at Virgin Vision, Southern Star and Macquarie Bank Group.

“I’m looking forward to working with Jackie and the team in growing Ovation Media’s various multi-platform business interests. The company is expanding and we are now working on more integrated 360 degree deals which can span touring, home entertainment, broadcast, brand management and others. It’s an exciting time to be a part of this expansion,” she said.

Ovation Managing Director Gerry Travers said, ” These appointments reflect our desire to strike the right balance between ensuring our audience benefit from innovative programming in this constantly changing media landscape in our territory.”

  2. Yes, as of June this year, Ovation became a “stand alone” channel, which both Foxtel and Austar viewers can still purchase a separate, annual subscription for (it’s not affiliated with the SBS channel, Stvdio, in any way). In my opinion, ever since it’s relaunch, Ovation’s actually been screening a fantastic, wider range of really great arts programmes and classic films – much more diverse than Stvdio.

  3. Ovation is still Ovation – Foxtel tendered for an arts channel, and SBS won with STVDIO. Ovation is now a ‘premium’ channel that isn’t available in any package – it has to be purchased separately (like Setanta).
