Renewed: The Big C, Weeds

Showtime has renewed two drama series that will both air next week on GEM.

Talk about great timing for GEM.

Showtime has renewed its drama series The Big C, starring Laura Linney, and Weeds.

Both dramas are airing next week on Nine’s new channel GEM.

Showtime cited “record-breaking premiere night ratings for both original series” in announcing the renewals.

“The unprecedented viewership for both The Big C and Weeds proves that audiences love these shows as much as we do,” said Showtime president of entertainment David Nevins.

“There are definitely more comedic adventures in store for these fascinating, complex women.”

The new seasons will premiere in the US in 2011.

  1. @ v – In the launch of Seven Two on this pdf document I have, it was stated that they (CH 7)have bought the repeat rights to this show.

I would expect to see it once The Sopranos finish.

  2. Not another season of Weeds.. just going to get worse and worse from hear. Few eps of S6 and I lost interest.. the characters have just changed way too much over time.

  3. No one has ever indicated Weeds would end before season 7.

Elizabeth Perkins said season 6 would be her last season though she has yet to appear in it so it may have been season 5 after all.

  4. Laura Linney is such a fine actor. Challenging subject matter, but like Glenn Close and Toni Collette – tv is proving a great landscape for terrific work for film focused actresses. Linney already has three Emmys i think – she will earn another next year! Bring it on.

  5. Yes, series six is on Gem next Wednesday.

I thought Mary Louise Parker was wanting to leave after this series? I hope they are not planning to do the show without her.

  6. More Weeds!?

First S5 was the last, then this series was the last. Hopefully we get to see S6 before S7 starts in the US!!

My bad I just read the article properly! Though is it the new series on GEM? Can anyone inform?
