Exclusive: TEN has picked up a new animated childrens’ series Get Ace.

The series follows 12-year-old Ace McDougal, who is catapulted into one adventure after another when he is accidentally fitted with super cool, high-tech spy braces.

This is the second commissioning from Network TEN for young writer producers Gian Christian and Dina McPherson of Galaxy Pop. Their live action series Rock It! aired in 2007.

Writer Dina McPherson told TV Tonight, “In creating Get Ace we’ve worked hard to ensure that the series is kid relatable. Beyond the slapstick humour, snappy script, absurd action and crazy characters, there’s a core of reality to the series that we hope kids will identify with.

“Our lead character Ace McDougal, is your average 12-year-old school kid and while he might have some super high-tech spy braces in his mouth, he still faces the same awkward journey through High School as our target audience. Along with all the comedy and action, the series also features pop culture references and college band style music to ensure the series connects with kids on multiple levels.”

Cherrie Bottger, Network TEN’s Head of Children’s Programming said, “Get Ace is a character centric, cheeky humoured animated television series and Network TEN is thrilled to be in partnership once again with such a passionate and committed team headed by Gian and Dina. We believe it will deliver another entertaining experience to our young audience.”

The $10m 26-part series will have its international industry debut at the MIPCOM market in Cannes next month. Galaxy Pop has partnered with Canadian producer CCI Entertainment to co-produce the series.

It will air on TEN in late 2012.
