USA to remake Outnumbered

FOX will remake UK comedy series Outnumbered, currently airing in Australia on ABC2.

FOX will remake UK comedy series Outnumbered.

The BBC series, built on part improvisation features three rambunctious kids who overwhelm their parents.

The project will be “inspired” by the British original, created by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin.

Currently airing in Australia on ABC2, the pilot is being produced outside of the usual US pilot cycle, giving FOX a greater selection of acting and production talent.

The pilot will be produced by 20th Century FOX Television in association with Chernin Entertainment and Hat Trick Prods.

FOX previously attempted to adapt Outnumbered during the 2007-08 development season. A pilot was produced, but did not receive a series commission.

  1. Should work just as well as the American’s remake of “Kath and Kim” and “The Office”… disasters!

Outnumbered is a great show… especially for parents.

  2. This is one of my favourite programs on TV at the moment, but I fear for what it may look like after it churns through American comedic writing and acting, ie overdone, exaggerated physical comedy, irony bypass, mugging for cameras and terribly obvious writing. The British do black cringe-comedy better than anyone. Don’t see this working, but having said that I was relatively impressed with the US version of The Office, mostly down to Steve Carel, i think.

  3. I think it could work. Some UK shows would never work as an American series and are best left alone, but there isn’t really anything distinctively British about this show so it has the potential to work just as well as an American series as it does as a UK one. I wonder if a commercial network will pick it up here.

  4. @Dan you think Outnumbered is a remake of Malcolm in the Middle, well got bad news for you, it isn’t, Outnumbered is mainly improvised, the kids get a certain amount of scripted lines and the rest they get to improvise their lines.
