Winners and Losers: Seven confirms new drama

Seven's new drama about 4 women who were once losers in high school stars Zoe Tuckwell-Smith, Melissa Bergland, Melanie Vallejo, & Virginia Gay.

The Seven Network today confirmed its new drama series Winners and Losers (first tipped exclusively to readers in April) would air in 2011.

The drama, which looks at the lives of four best friends who were “losers” in high school and about to become “winners” ten years later, has been developed by Seven’s in-house drama team of Bevan Lee and John Holmes.

The Melbourne-made drama stars “Denise Scott as the matriarch of the Gross family and newcomers Zoe Tuckwell-Smith as faithful Bec, Melissa Bergland as loud and opinionated Jenny, Melanie Vallejo as the fit and feisty Sophie, and returning to Channel Seven is Virginia Gay as high powered workaholic Frances.”

They are joined by Blair McDonough, Damien Bodie and Francis Greenslade as Mr Gross.

The series is produced by former City Homicide producer MaryAnne Carroll.

  1. Think ill give this one a miss, not really within my demographics, but good to see more aussie drama thats not a crime show

apparently this starts filming next week

  2. Well i was sceptical about Rafters before it aired, on the basis of the saturated promo campaign, but this? Sorry – i am not overly optimistic. Denise Scott was hilarious on the Big Gig 20 years ago, and a chronic panellist – but an actor?
Maryanne Carroll has a great track record, but the proof will be in the writing and directing style of this that will determine its potential success – in my opionion.
I now love Rafters – so will give this a go.

  3. It’s a shame that television seems to be exclusively shot out of Sydney and Melbourne.

I know a lot of it comes down to budget but it would be nice to see other cities in Australia represented on television.

McLeod’s Daughters and The Strip are two off the top of my head, but nothing else seems to spring to mind.

  4. Michala banas is in it, she’s just not a regular. She’s in the pilot and first couple of eps as the school bitch the leads when to highschool with agreed @Byron~ the photo and props do look cheap!

  5. Great news about it being commissioned (hardly surprising though now that City Homicide is well and truly tanking) as I really like Virginia Gay. Though what happened to Michaela Banas?

  6. With the success of female skewed ‘Offspring’ on Ten, Seven must be confident that this female drama may respond as well.
After watching the pilot a couple of months ago, I was impressed, and look foward to seeing what happens next.

  7. Ick. If this takes an honest approach to the material then it could be okay, but if this takes a Packed to The Rafters approach, as I assume it will, gosh I’m going to exhaust myself running as far away from this show as possible.

  8. Hmmm not sure about this one, I mean its great its not another cop drama but theres something “cheap”sounding about the whole thing and Im thinking a lottery win is a bit too much of a gimmick to sustain an aussie drama.

  9. i like the cast, there seem to be a lot of people that are just as good tv personalities as they are actors like denise scott, Blair McDonough, virginia gay, and michala (spelling) Banas twittered she is on board too.

and good to see a show that is not vince colossimo, kat stewart, guyton grantley, asher keddie ect. they are great actors but i mean give someone else a shot.

looking forward to it, any drama that isn’t a cop show is good in my books.

  10. Can’t wait for this to start, yay another new drama with lots of strong females in it!! We are going to be spoilt next year with another series of Offspring and Spirited. Plus the new womens prison drama Inside Out!! I was wondering if Michala Banas and Eliza Taylor Cotter were still attached to this project aswell? Any news on a new season of Tangle? Its going to be great to see Denise Scott in a lead role, she’s a very funny lady! I hope Winners and Losers is a hit!

  11. at this point it looks like micheala banas character is not going to be full time. which i though was a shame. she would be one of the best additions to the cast. Denise Scott will be great.
