“You. Will. Never. Forget.”

Seriously, who is producing the promos for Rush?

Seriously, who is producing the promos for Rush?

Ads for tonight’s episode go overboard with the hype.

They allude to a plotline that is so wrapped in secrecy they just can’t bring themselves to show you, or even tell you, what it entails.

But apparently once you’ve seen it ….You. Will. Never. Forget.

I’ve seen the episode, and don’t get me wrong, I’m always entertained by Rush. But I forgot this supposed moment in about ten minutes.

Sure, if it actually happened to me I would never forget it.

But the promos give the impression it’s a moment of TV drama that isn’t easily forgotten. Sorry. That’s reserved for finales like Six Feet Under or the closing scenes of last season’s Dexter. The bomb from Number 96 or the death of Molly in A Country Practice. This isn’t even on the radar.

If they keep making out every episode is Gob. Smacking. Telly. then all it really does is Diminish. The. Impact.

Producers of Rush are regular readers of this site. A quiet word with TEN promos might be in order?

  1. The rush and offspring promos remind me of each other. Same generic stuff to try and entice viewers. Doesn’t work for me for either show, just shows lack of confidence their own work to me if they feel they have to go so over the top with their promos.

  2. Love your work David. Very funny!

I’ve mentioned this on this site once before: the only time that a promo has lived up to the hype for me was an episode of Blue Heelers. The promo stated something along the lines of how the ending will “take your breath away”. I thought ‘yeah, yeah, whatever” but oh my gosh, it did! It ended with PJ shooting a crim twice in the chest right before the credits rolled. Woh! Job done. Breath taken away.

  3. Interesting note – a lot of people here ‘hated’ the promo then watched the episode to find out ‘what happened next’. Wouldn’t that mean the promo worked? I’m not defending the writing of the promo, just the principle.

  4. I agree with everything here. Almost always Ten advertises one thing and the episode brings something else.

Especially last week’s episode when the uniforms pulled over TR. In the commercial it was, “you won’t believe what Shannon does. Turns cop against cop!!!” It lasted 1 minute in the episode and wasn’t even remotely the central plot.

  5. Hey, it’s a TEN promo; they’ve been using the same “creative” duds – sorry, dudes – for centuries now, forgot to sack the idiots and hire anyone of any intelligence. By the they, this coming from a TEN fan. The only thing holding TEN back are them and their programming department. Nothing wrong with their programs, simply where they put them, how they (don’t) promote them and general inconsistency across the board.

  6. I can’t help thinking that Ten’s promo voice-over guy is a frustrated acting school drop out. “Could I sound any more sinister and foreboding?”. I hope he manages to drop the voice when he clocks off. Imagine sitting across the dinner table from him – “Pass me the salt or it’ll be a dinner you’ll never forget!”

  7. As long as it beats bloody COPS LAC in the ratings this week Ill be happy! Great episode, Rush has being so good the last 3-4 weeks! i thought channel 10 werent showing the rest of the season till next yr?
It just said its coming back october 21st??

  8. *Spoiler*
Turns out it was a severed penis.
And for the record, I think the promos for Rush are often far too overhyped, but I watch regardless because I enjoy the show.

  9. Thanks for making a point of this David. I saw it a couple of days ago and thought it was the worst promo every. It’s grated on me each time I’ve seen it. My thoughts were much like yours – “Who writes this crap!”.

  10. Agreed Mangadude, W did this with Spirited last night, they gave away the twist ending of the episodein a promo, I wached the whole episode knowing what was going on only for them to confirm it in a “unexpected twist” in the last couple of minutes

  11. Totally agree…Oh and for anyone who wants to know the incident …Ill post it below but Spoiler Alert ( but not really as we all know its an overhyped thing by TEN)

A guy gets his d*** cut off

There it is…..Ive already forgotten it! 😉

  12. I first noticed this with All Saints some years ago and became so mad at the misleading promos that I stopped watching. I have done the same with Rush which I did like but I always felt like they were taking me for an idiot after the episode.
Hopefully something will be done about them treating viewers like morons.

  13. @ Ialla…. I think yours is the most offensive comment one here. Simply because you used the word Oz. I really can’t stand people like you who hate Australian drama because it’s Australian.

  14. I think what’s even more annoying is a promo that spoils everything. 10 did that with Numb3rs by showing a character being kidnapped. It happened at the end of the episode!
