Lovefest for The Xtra Factor

The Xtra Factor loves Twitter, and it seems Twitter loves The Xtra Factor too. But is there balance in the selection of Tweets?

The Xtra Factor on 7TWO last night invited viewers to give feedback via Twitter, SMS and Facebook.

The show managed to become one of the Top 10 trending topics in the Twitter-verse last night with #xfactorau

Looking at the Tweets that were published on screen it’s clear there is a fervent fan-base for some performers:

Joel and Luke are somkin HAWT!! Your two rock don’t listen to kyle your Awesome. XD Luv lycie xox

Newcastle loves LUKE AND JOEL! -jack

Altiyan great performace tonight you were awsome Steph & Andres PS 9ine is in good hands

@Catherine483 Luke and Joel’s performance was awesome. I couldn’t stop smiling 😀

@RosieReaper Andrew, you did AMAZING tonight! Definitely upped the anti right there.

@AusHEarsLovato Sally should do a Demi Lovato song. Here We Go Again :]

Linita altiyan was just wow ! awesome 🙂

But for some reason negative Tweets don’t appear to be included.

None of these tweets appeared to make it to air:

I’ve got to say. The x factor in Australia is really bad.

The xtra factor right now is reminding me why i can’t stand Altiyan #xfactorau man up and stop crying every 5 seconds!

Hey Australia, THIS is what you’re comparing ”star” Altiyan with? Please. http://www.youtube.com

Mitchell ur not Justin Bieber or Chris Brown, so stop singing songs like theres and sing songs that suit your voice!!

whenever altiyan gets bad comments he has a cry. when he gets nice comments he has a cry

I think Haley lip synced, the high note fail was a total give away.

#xfactorau the biggest twitter user (USA) is sleeping. Only number 7 trend.

Does altiyan ever say more than two words? Then again, maybe it’s a good thing he doesn’t

It’s great to see some embracing of social media in an offshoot show of this kind (although there are some who can’t stand Tweets on screen). But balance is important.

Q & A is a very good example of showing balanced views by the audience, not just about panel opinions but sometimes even criticism of its panel selection.

  1. I understand why they don’t post the negative comments, but I wished they would stop showing the fan ones like I Love Mitchell/luke and joel/ india etc.

There are some funny constructive tweets out there in the twitterverse.

    1. It’s not strictly about publishing negative comments, but about representing the audience and including some food for thought. There are panellists giving opinions on Xtra Factor, but I’m not seeing many Tweets that disagree with them. Or Tweets that question song choice or mentoring. It’s dominated by “we love so and so / you are awesome.” There’s no drilling deeper, it’s just a love-in…..

  2. Good point Nathan.

No network would post harsh or negative comments.. or the ones DK wrote out. And while constructive ones like “it wasn’t Andrew strongest performance” would be ok… Xtra Factor is hardly ‘Q and A’ and hard hitting unbiased journalism.

Still, I can’t wait for it tonight. I just saw that Boyzone are on and I bet Natalie Garonzi will have them on the panel and have a good craic with them. She’s a gem!

  3. If that’s the case, then why do you disable comments for certain stories that are bound to prompt discussion, positive and negative? If you feel this way about being balanced, open up all your posts for comment please.

  4. I agree.
I was following the twitter stream last night and wondered why they wouldn’t write up some of the negative ones. Although some are mean and unnecessary anyway.

On a side note. The show has gone from strength to strength. It’s far more entertaining than the main show and Natalie the host is without doubt the best, most unique female talent on the seven network. If not the whole country really. I hope seven are smart enough to use her elsewhere.

Also is there any news on ratings for Xtra?

  5. i saw #xfactorau at #5 at one point, but Altiyan got up to #2. i have been on twitter every week so far but last nght it appeared there was more to talk about.

The Xtra factor is surprisingly really entertaining, Natalie Garonzi is great and the Youlia segment is really funny.
