Mother and Son writer for Screenwriter’s Address

Renowned scriptwriter Geoffey Atherden will give an address to industry later this month.

Renowned scriptwriter Geoffey Atherden will give the annual Foxtel Screenwriters’ Address later this month.

The Foxtel-sponsored Address is presented by the Australian Writers’ Foundation, with a writer of note  invited to speak to industry on contemporary issues, their craft and its place in the world.

Atherden, a former president of the Australian Writer’s Guild, is best known for creating what is still regarded as the country’s finest sitcom, Mother and Son. The award-winning series has received a number of foreign remakes. He also wrote Grass Roots while feature satire, BabaKiueria, was awarded a United Nations Media Peace award.

Previous Addresses have been given by John Doyle (Club Buggery, Changi, Marking Time) and Katherine Thomson (Darwin’s Brave New World, Answered By Fire).

The free Address will take place at 7pm on October 19 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
