The Hulk headed back to the small screen

ABC Network is in early stages of development for a new TV version of The Incredible Hulk.

ABC Network is in early stages of development for a new TV version of The Incredible Hulk.

Deadline reports that Marvel, which was acquired by ABC’s parent Disney last year for $4 billion, launched Marvel Television in June with a goal to adapt its characters and stories to the small screen.

So far no writer is on board yet, so it’s very early days.

The best-known live version of the character created by Stan Lee/ Jack Kirby remains the CBS series that ran from 1978-82. Physicist Bruce Banner was played by Bill Bixby prior to his transformation into the green, bulked-up and raging giant personified by Lou Ferrigno (pictured).

On film he was played by Eric Bana and Edward Norton in two separate films. For the upcoming movie The Avengers, Mark Ruffalo wins the part.

The Hulk is the second major comic book character to be set for a new US series.

TV and DC Comics are developing a Wonder Woman series with David E. Kelley (The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal).

  1. Why not just put the Original Incredible Hulk back on TV, so that those of us who were growing up at the time and barely remember watching it actually get to see it again when we’re adults??? — Just put the Original back on TV and stop stuffing around!

  2. Why oh why do they keep doing this?
Bringing back old tv shows we loved & ruining them in either movie or tv remakes?
Why can’t they just leave it alone?

  3. That’s probably the sensible way to go with that character.

Marvel tried twice to turn it into a movie franchise and it failed – even though the Ed Norton starring The Incredible Hulk was great.

I can see potential in a long running series, considering the original Bill Bixby lasted for a number of seasons.

Searching for a star of Bixby’s prowess will be difficult but I’m sure someone will enter the frame soon enough.

  4. Yes! good news these are the sort of shows that we need I’m sick of police dramas. Imagine having a live action Spiderman, Iron Man, Batman, Transformers tv series now that would be awesome. I also heard that George Lucas is doing a Star Wars live action series that is coming to air 2011 or 2012 and i can’t wait for the Steven Spielberg’s dino drama Terra Nova that is set to air in 2011 on Ten.

  5. Just what we need, more and more remakes. Stop making them and wasting money on what always ends up as a failure. They fail every single time. Try something new for a change and maybe just maybe we will get a success.
