Vive le France!
Americain has won the 150th Melbourne Cup.
The French-trained horse stole the race from hot favourite So You Think, whose late run saw the Bart Cummings-trained horse finish in third.
MaLuckyDay took second.
The winning horse was ridden by Frenchman Gerald Mosse.
The event is traditionally one of the biggest of the television year, with millions of Aussies gathered around their television sets for “the race that stops a nation.”
Last year it pulled a huge 2.6m -and that’s without accounting for pubs, clubs and offices.
The Spring Racing Carnival event is also a big drawcard for Seven, which promotes key events including Iron Chef Australia and Packed to the Rafters in its coverage.
This post updates.

I don’t know if the Melbourne Cup has actually ever been in true 1080 HD but at least last year it was on 7HD at the same time. David what excuse does Seven have for not haing this on 7MATE, is it as lame as all the cameras weren’t HD, like they gave for Bathurst last month?
As for this site/blog – David can post what he likes, it’s his blog. And this is TV related as it’s to do with how many people watched the race.
Spoiler warning!!!! I was going to watch that tomorrow! 😛
Lol cheeky bugger.
This is not television news. It’s gambling news, maybe sports news at best.
Why is it on this website?
I have often logged results for big events, whether they are sport, music etc because they are some of the biggest events of the TV year. Have done the same for AFL, NRL, etc. I try to give things a TV angle as I have here….
they never have hd coverage of sports @craig
I’m very happy, I backed the trifecta and won $352. Not a bad return for my only bet of the year!
I remember reading last week that with the funeral scene there was Dave, Ted and Melissa was missing from the filming of this scene so It is probably one of them
Before the race Seven were assuming that a Bart Cummings horse would win, with the interviewer drooling over Bart who clearly didn’t feel like talking during that interview. Some other Seven commentator said “The race wouldn’t have gone ahead if Bart hadn’t have been here”. Give the guy some space!!
But no HD coverage this year?
And how many times can the commentary panel say “has ….. got the X Factor” or “this horse certainly has the X Factor”.
does it ever advertise their shows on it’s coverage of the cup carnival. didn’t back the winner this year. iron chef has been plugged a billion times already. they must think plugging it so much on 1 show will give it ratings for the show
