Ashes to dust on GEM

More simulcasts of the Ashes are now out of the GEM schedule.

Further to a recent cricket amendment on GEM….

Nine has now dropped the simulcast of the Ashes 1st and 2nd Tests on Sunday November 28, Monday November 29, Friday December 3 and Saturday December 4.

This follows dumping broadcasts from GEM for next week on Thursday 25, Friday 26, Saturday 27.

They will both be broadcast only on Nine in SD, replaced by various repeats and movies.

  1. for those of you who think theres no different between watching cricket in HD or SD, then you obviously have not seen how awesome it looks on the foxsports HD ashes replays at night time. the picture quality absolutely puts channel 9’s to shame. thats right, channel 9 are filming the ashes in HD , they’re just not showing it in HD

gosh i wish all sporting events were on foxtel then we wouldnt have to put up with the stupid tv netwroks screwing us all around.

hurry up and fix this mr conjob

  2. Almost funny

They had months to sort this out, I’m glad I have held out buying a HD TV (I watch on a PC)

Either nine is an extremely unprofessional organisation or they lied don’t know which truth is the worst

  3. Shame on you channel nine. When Gem came out and took over the HD channel I was already annoyed. Now I’m furious! Let’s face it, The only time HD really shines is for sports and I love watching the cricket in all it’s glory… I don’t think watching The View on HD has the same impact!! Poor effort channel nine. Money and advertising obviously take precedence over quality sporting broadcasts.

  4. You guys are total clowns. Kerry would be rolling over in his grave at you jokers. Hell he invented one day cricket for Christ’s sake, he would have Demanded the Ashes in HD.

Very poor effort from the “Wide World of Sports” channel

  5. @Tad – Totally agree!

Who is home during the day, during the week with the tv on – Mums!! Who wants to watch the cricket??? Dads!!

Ellen is on at 5pm on GEM – Why can’t they put The View on GEM also in situations like that??

  6. A, I’m not saying you can’t make a better transfer of an old movie when you do a Blu-ray. I’m sayng it’s not making the most of the HD channel, being in B&W, and as I said they sometimes even show it in 4:3 (because they haven’t bothered making a new transfer). In the meantime you have something that is in HD to begin with languishing on a SD channel. My point is why have an B&W movie in 4:3 on your HD channel (Gem) while you’re showing sport (or something else modern) on your SD channel (9), you see? Makes much more sense to be the other way around so you’re getting the most out of it, particularly for those who have TV’s where the difference between HD and SD is quite visible.
