Foxtel has announced new deals with Hollywood studios to start bringing forward movie release dates in line with DVD release on its pay per view Box Office service.
Universal Studios has agreed to make all November and December movie titles available at the same time as DVD release, kicking off with Get Him To The Greek from tomorrow.
Warner Bros Inception will be available from December 8th while Disney’s A Christmas Carol and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice will be available the same day as DVD on November 24 and January 12 respectively.
Foxtel’s Executive Director of Product & Sales, Patrick Delany said, “The enhanced agreements with Hollywood studios further cement Foxtel as the number one entertainment provider in Australia as we will now have blockbuster movies available to our subscribers the same day as DVD release. We are also working towards screening the first new release 3D video-on-demand movie for Foxtel iQ2 subscribers early in the New Year.
Roadshow Television is also testing early release windows with titles such as Killers and The Expendables in December.

If only the picture quality wasn’t so poor compared to DVD’s (I wont even mention versus blu-ray)!
Get Him to the Greek was also released on Tivo’s CASPA service on November 3 as well.
@Ararat
I think this move will certainly be thought about very seriously as time goes on
I would like this more if they didn’t get rid of the 2 included FBO movies in the platinum package.
@Craig…
and scrap a cash cow? do you really believe that could happen?
I love the idea of Foxtel releasing them at the same time of the DVD’s, even though i’d rather pay for the DVD than get it off Foxtel.
They were already doing this already.Foxtel must scap the Box Office idea and put these movies straight on the movie channels
