Former TV cop receives suspended sentence

Former Wombat regular David Moore has received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to possessing a videotape of child porn.

Former policeman and TV regular David Moore (pictured, right), who was ‘Constable Dave’ on children’s television show Wombat in the 1980s, has received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to possessing a videotape of “vintage” child porn.

Moore, 55, broke down and sobbed loudly in Brisbane District Court today, as Judge Leanne Clare SC sentenced him to a 15-month wholly suspended jail term.

Moore previously appeared on television alongside Agro on Wombat, as the public face of the Queensland Police Service. He also appeared on Bailey and the Bird and three police documentaries.

The court heard police searched his Aspley business in May last year and found a VHS tape containing adult porn along with spliced images of naked young boys described in court as “vintage” child porn made up to 40 years ago. Moore claimed tape had been left at his premises 10 years ago by a customer and until they asked about it, he had forgotten he had it.

Judge Clare ordered acknowledged media coverage of the case had been damaging for Moore and noted he had undergone testing which showed he was at low risk of re-offending.

A conviction was recorded.

  1. I just read about this over at abc.com.au and they published online the entire name of his business. I now know that his business is based in my suburb, which I drive past every day. I wonder how soon it will be until the “For Sale” or “Under New Management” sign goes up??
